Are government issued checks subject to different criteria for stale-dating? I know many entities put a "Void after xx days", which I'm thinking is primarily to speed up processing, but am wondering if those checks could actually be returned if they were presented after 60 or 90 days? Thoughts?

Thanks

I'm not aware of any differing criteria but it seems at times that the government has it's own set of rules and we find out about them as we play the game.

I was a teller for a few years and some of the government checks that I have seen are good up to a year after the date the check was written. (Example: tax checks, social security checks) Although I can't understand why someone would hold on to money that the government is willingly giving them!!!
