We are closing a customer's accounts due to her NSF activity. One account is with her son who is not a minor. When sending him notification are there any privacy issues. Can we state why we are closing his account? We intend to let him open another account under his own name as his activity is okay.

As he is a joint signer, he is allowed information on the account. We usually do not go into detail why we are closing an account and we only send one letter addressed to both of the joint signers. However, if you are willing to open an individual account for the son, I would send a separate letter to each of them and include in his that he can open an account in his name.
