Is an "official check" considered next day item? We are starting to receive tax refund checks and one is labeled "official check" from H&R Block Bank.

Is this considered a next day item check? Can we place a case by case hold if it does not qualify under an exception hold?

These checks also have an authorization code we need to obtain by calling a number.

If the check is drawn by a bank and signed by a bank official, then it meets the qualifications of a cashier's check in Reg CC 229.2(i). You cannot place case by case holds on these checks.
