Hey all...I have been reviewing employee accounts and came accross one in which it appears the employee or their spouse likes to gamble. What if anything do you do with that? Do you talk to the employee? Do you talk with HR? Their Supervisor? Nothing? It looks like there are some days which they write multiple checks in quantities of $100 to the casino. I'm not sure what to do with this. Please help if you can!!

Are they overdrawing their account by gambling? Kiting because of it? Taking out loans to cover losses? Have compensating balances in savings accounts?

I would not see it as a problem on the face, as I think there is a lot more to consider. You should probably dig a bit deeper...

They aren't overdrawing the accounts, although there are times where they hit their extra credit checking. Not very often though. I know a new loan was just made for $2,000 to the employee...I know there is some other stuff going on personally...there are no other compensating balances. They aren't kiting...I've already reviewed the account for that.

We have that in some of our accounts and we monitor to see if there are other issues that could involve the bank, e.g. kiting, shortages in the vault/teller drawers, etc. To date, there has been no problem for the bank so there is nothing else to do. It's legal and they can spend their money as they choose. We just try to make sure it's just a hobby that doesn't impact the bank.

Great...thanks so much! That helps. I'll just monitor for future issues.
