Could someone refresh my NACHA rules memory...?

Our ACH department received an ODFI request to return a credit posted to one of our business customers a couple of weeks ago- R06. Customer was contacted and did NOT grant permission to return the credit; they provided the ACH dept. an invoice to prove credit was owed.

We have no further liability at this point, correct? ACH Department can simply respond to the ODFI that permission was NOT granted by the receiver?

you are correct, the originator is free to take the request outside of ACH and file a legal claim against the receiver

Thank you Happy Gilmore, that's what I thought. This sounds like an issue between our receiver and the originator.

I have a similar question. If we receive an r10 for an alleged unauthorized transaction but haven't received the documentation, even though we have requested it, can we reject the r10?

there is no dishonored return reason code for rejecting a R-10, so no, it goes outside of ACH to resolve

(and you've posted this question in multiple places, moving forward you would be better served starting a new topic with this one question instead of trying to tag multiple places for it to be seen - as a new topic is has its own visibility, just a suggestion)

You can't reject the R10, but you can lodge a complaint with NACHA for a rules violation by the RDFI if it refuses to (or can't) provide the documentation.
