I was informed that our institution is looking into changing/converting youth savings accounts which the customer is no longer a youth to a regular savings account. We plan to inform the customer on the upcoming statements over the next 30 days; what else do we need to be looking into? The only change from the initial agreement and TIS disclosure is the youth savings had a $1 fee if the account fell below $25 at any time in the statement period to the regular savings it is a $3 fee if the account falls below $100.

Since you haven't already disclosed this information, you need to provide notice 30 days before making the change. The notice has to say that the accounts will be subject to a $3 fee each [month/statement period] if the balance falls below $100 at any time during that period.

Or, if your fee works differently, explain how it works.

Be sure to be consistent in how you label the fee in the notice and on the statement.
