does anyone have a simple definition of what "carry margin stock" means in Regulation U?

A loan to carry margin stock is one that enables the borrower to maintain, reduce, or retire the loan they used to purchase the stock.

So from the definition, if you write a new loan to payoff a loan used to purchae margin stock...
that would fit under your definition (retire)?
