As today passes, Andy will contribute his 10,000th post to this online community--an amazing accomplishment! If BOL has a "lifetime achievement award," this is a nomination for Andy to be its first recipient. It's wonderful to be part of an industry that places such a high value on sharing for the common good--but it hasn't always been this way.

From the birth of Reg. Z until the mid-1990s, peer groups were local. Compliance officers and other banking specialists could only engage in very limited professional discussions without violating anti-trust laws. Nationwide peer exchange could only occur at expensive conferences several time zones away. With the Internet and pioneers like Andy, all of that has changed.

Please join me in congratulating Andy as we celebrate a milestone in banking!

I'm just glad to be here, to contribute, and to let others learn from my 22 years of opportunities to err.

Andy, my congratulations and thanks for your insight on our compliance issues. I second the "lifetime achievement award" nomination.

(And to think, Magic was predicting a year or so ago I'd overtake you on posts. NOT! )

Congratulations, Andy! And thank you! Your wit and wisdom are much appreciated.

I've said it before, but it bears repeating: for banking compliance from A to Z, Andy Z is the guy to see!

Amen !!! Dittos !!!!! Andy has allowed us all the opportunity to be revised and corrected in a non-threatening environment. If my bosses knew how many times my screwy interpretations had been amended by Andy, I would be "pursuing other interests".

Re: A10K - 03/29/04 03:28 PM

I agree, but a 'lifetime achievement award' keyed to the quantity of posts only tells a small part of the story. It's the quality of posts & presentation that is so very helpful.

BOL has a huge volume of unevaluated information within the threads with one post from Andy setting the record straight. One can use Andy's input with confidence without having to critically evaluate how good that information is.

There are a number of Bolers racking up huge numbers with no where near the level of quality that Andy offers with each post. The more appropriate award would be Most Valuable Player (MPV) as a 'lifetime achievement award' is usually given at the end of the line. Hopefully, Andy will be around BOL offering insight well into the future.

Paragon makes a good point. Andy has made the same point in the past - he calls it "a trusted source."

Thanks, Andy, for being a trusted source. I look forward to your future contributions to my body of compliance knowledge.

Re: A10K - 03/29/04 07:14 PM

Andy, you and I have been in this line of work about the same number of years. Consider what it was like in the beginning as compared to now... no internet ; no resourses other than the regulators - maybe a state association, thrown into the field head first, learning to swim as you go. Now, we have this wonderful BOL community of bankers sharing, helping, contributing, training each other and you are one of the main reasons this community works so well. Thank you for your thoughtful answers and professionalism.

Re: A10K - 03/29/04 11:52 PM

I still remember using my 28.8 modem to search all AOL members who had "compliance" in their profiles and emailing them to see about starting a compliance network, so to speak. Richard Insley had a BBS and then came TMP. It was soon overshadowed by BOL which has become a staple for many in our industry.

I'm just glad I can contribute and be of assistance to those who will hopefully be assisting others in the future. Giving back is good!

Thank you all. (And with any luck I will hit 10K today.)
