Electronic Check Clearing

We are preparing to implement a complete imaging system - checks, documents, and cold. Our reader/sorter is way past its prime, so we're going to begin branch capture and clear checks electronically. We are located in WV and are about $130 million in assets. I am interested in hearing about experiences from others, especially regarding electronic clearing. I've heard horror stories about banks trying to clear with the Fed electronically. Is it really as bad as I've heard? Thanks for your help.
