BANKRUPTCY & CHECKING ACCTS - 03/30/04 06:07 PM

We have a customer that filed for bankruptcy. Her checking account with us had been charged off previous to that. Now, 6 months or so later, she is writing checks off of that account. Is there anything we can do as a bank, besides returning the checks account closed? Any advise?

You could file a police report for attempted check fraud.

Whomever she is writing the checks to can also file charges against her in court for writing checks on a closed account. I think it's called 'issue of worthless checks' and maybe you as the bank can do someting in that order too for your time and trouble, maybe get some fees out of her that way????

Isn't this like trying to get blood out of the proverbial turnip? I can see the recipient of the checks getting something or reclaiming the property but not much else with the bankruptcy protection.
