Led Zeppelin working on new material?

Led Zeppelin working on new material? - 08/27/08 01:37 PM

But, still without Robert Plant...

Led Zeppelin musicians Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham have been working on new material. Drummer Bonham told a radio station in Detroit that the songs could be destined for a new Led Zeppelin album. Writing new material has been "on the cards" since the band's one-off reunion show in London last December, he told 94.7 WCSX. But lead singer Robert Plant has not been involved in any of the sessions, he added.

Maybe, I would have thought no John Entwistle would have meant not The Who either, but they still carry on with two members.

I certainly think it would be a mistake for Page and Jones to try to carry on as Led Zeppelin without Plant. I don't think they would either. The seem to have more sense than that. Personally, it might be pushing it to call themselves Zep by adding Jason Bonham (even with Plant), but he did an excellent job at the London show, so he may have proved himself worthy. We'll see.

P.S. I've always felt that John Bonham was the heart of Zeppelin and that they wouldn't be Led Zeppelin without him -- and the same is true for each member.

But that's part of what made Pink Floyd so good! Having a great voice is waaaay overrated.

I don't know, Led Zeppelin without Robert Plant just wouldn't seem right. Perhaps he's busy planning on another recording session with Alyson Krauss (I hope so!), and after that he might rejoin the band.

I've been thinking Alison should join Zep. Seriously!

I thought they sucked the first time around (except No Quarter), so second time around, 30 years later...rockers aren't like fine wine, they don't get better with age...

To each his own, I suppose. Three Dog Night rules!

They're also writing a new 7 minute epic called "Wheelchair Ramp to Heaven."

Heck, just get Nancy and Ann Wilson to join the remaining guys. Call it Led Heart. What a show that'd be!

that's a good one!!

I think all of the old time rockers should get together and take it on the road. Most of those guys look pretty bad, it'd be like watching a train wreck, can't take your eyes off it no matter how horrifying.

I'm just not clever enough to think of a snappy name for the tour.

Any ideas?

gotta agree. Sure, all of the bandmembers together made Zep the band they were, but Plant was the unifying element IMO. He just had(has) the most unique voice and an unparalelled stage presence.

the sound was the thing i was thinking of more than the presence (pun intended). zep without plant makes them van halen!

That's hard to argue with, but with the right person, it might be overcome by making it into something different but just as good.

For example, nobody can sing like Freddie Mercury, but I think Robert Plant could easily become the front man for Queen if that was something they all wanted to do. I've seen videos on YouTube of Plant doing Crazy Little Thing Called Love with Queen at the Freddie Mercury Tribute a few years back. It wasn't the same as Freddie, but I think it was just as good because instead of trying to sound like Freddie, Robert made the song his own. That's what a world class performer does.

How about the "Almost Forgotten" tour?

Yeah, they wer enot the same w/o Roth, but I still think they did an ok job. I saw them live years ago with Hagar, and they still put on a good show.

Yeah Bugs, I know with a different singer, the band takes on a new life tis true, but when you are talking one of the Big 4 Bands of Rock History (ZEP, WHO, STONES, BEATLES) or even the DOORS, peole are nostalgic for what the original ingredients bore.

Back in the late '70s, WPLJ-FM in New York would occasionally (usually on a Thursday, if my memory is correct) have days on which they would play only Zeppelin, Stones, Beatles, and Who the entire day.

I miss those days.

Uh,oh. Now I'm gonna have to resist the temptation to correct this Top 4/5 list, Fella.

I remember them. That is when Carol Miller and Pat St. John were like the top DJs.

Re: Led Zeppelin working on new material? - 08/27/08 08:35 PM

Yup. The blondicious Carol Miller does a twice daily Led Zeppelin spot, giving interesting details about the history of the band and playing one of their hits. I get the impression that she's a personal friend of LZ.

<---prefers pink floyd without waters.

♥s Robert Plant. I would [censored] myself for new Led Zep stuff.

Weird, I know.
