President Obama Job Approval
Approve 59.4%
Disapprove 33.9%
And for a serious question, has he followed through and completed any of his grandiose campaign promises? I can't think of any that he made that he has acted on.

If I understand Moss's point correctly, I think this analogy sums it up:
A husband and wife are taking a trip in their car, the wife is driving. It becomes very apparent to the husband that the wife has taken a wrong turn. However, the husband remembers that, years ago on different trips, he took some wrong turns (this, of course, is why the wife is now doing the driving
). Because of these past mistakes, the husband should be disallowed from speaking up about this current mistake. Instead he should wait until they are thoroughly lost, out of gas, stranded on the side of the road...Then, and only then, can he say "I told you so!".

and yet, all kidding aside, no one has listed any promise he made and kept. Could it be that the nation as a whole was hoodwinked by this charlatan? And that he is truly an empty suit? And that his lack of leadership is showing? Nah, can't be any of that, he's only been in office 140 days, way too early for him to have accomplished anything of substance and value. Give hime time, after all, he's already 11% into his first term.

I just find it strange that anyone would actually approve of this message. I don't remember GWB blaming anything on Clinton...EVER. I don't remember Clinton blaming anything on Daddy Bush or Reagan. I actually don't remember Reagan blaming anything on Carter. In Obama's first 100+ days, he's blamed (and apologized for) Bush, Clinton, Daddy Bush, Reagan, Carter, Johnson, Nixon, Eisenhower, Truman, Roosevelt...and pretty much everyone else all the way back to Christopher Columbus and the Queen of Spain for sending him.

I'd never used it before, but I guess that PolitiFact.com, is a site that scrutinizes the accuracy of claims made by presidential candidates.
I first heard about it during the Bush years. They are tracking 500 of Obama's campaign promises.
According to them:
The Obameter Scorecard
Promise Kept 30
Compromise 8
Promise Broken 6
Stalled 9
In the Works 64
No Action 397

so "truth" varies with perspective?
Absolute Truth - Inflexible Reality
"Absolute truth" is defined as inflexible reality: fixed, invariable, unalterable facts. For example, it is a fixed, invariable, unalterable fact that there are absolutely no square circles and there are absolutely no round squares.
Sorry to go back to this, but just wanted to point something out. My son at the age of around 2 drew a shape on a piece of paper and showed it to me proudly. I said, beaming, "that is the best circle I have ever seen - it is so round and perfect!" He smirked and took the piece of paper from me, and as he was walking away he said "it ska-ware". To him, it was truly and invariably a square. The truth from my perspective, though, was that was the cr@ppiest square I'd ever seen.

Some of my favorites:
"If you actually took the number of Muslims [sic] Americans, we'd be one of the largest Muslim countries in the world."Barack Obama on Monday, June 1st, 2009 in interview with Canal Plus Television
Rated [Liar, liar] Pants on Fire This one is interesting to me - I had thought that Steele was ranting and raving again -
"President Obama will now own 60 percent of GM, and his union buddies will own almost 20 percent." Rated - True Another good one:
CIA documents and Pelosi at odds
"We were not, I repeat, were not told that waterboarding or any of these other enhanced interrogation methods were used." Rated - FALSE And a Half-truth example is here:Obama's "first call (as president) to any head of state was to Mahmoud Abbas, leader of Fatah party in the Palestinian territory."

B_F, so now you're calling my little boy ignorant!?!
(just kidding
) I think we all realize that it wasn't a square. I wasn't stating that someone's perspective changes THE TRUTH, but that perspective does impact one's perception of what is true. My point being that THE TRUTH
should be black and white, but our various perspectives lead us to see in shades of grey - otherwise, I don't reckon we'd argue so much.
so "truth" varies with perspective?
I believe so, at least that's what Ms. Sotomayor tells me...
^^^This is where the conversation began. I took Miscuit's comment to mean that she believed perspective had no place in determining what is true. I brought up Sotomayor's apparent belief that her perspective leads to better decisions, looking to start a discussion about how to reconcile those two ideas. Alas, it did not go that way and all I got out of it was the realization that my son was pretty stoopid when he was 2...

It took 8 years to bring the U.S. to it's knees on W's watch, let's at least give the guy the rest of his term and then judge his performance.
Moss, where did ye go?
I didn't see your response to my (and others') questions.

Bobby...your son was not stupid at 2...he just had the mentality of a 2 yr old!
Like father, like son then?
but I still think perspective has nothing to do with "the truth"
And I still think that it
shouldn't. But IMO there is a often times a difference between "the truth" and what we see to be true. Just for giggles, let's change the above quote slightly for a different situation to illustrate better (perhaps)...
Bobby...your son was not stupid at 22...he just had the mentality of a liberal!

I'm sorry. Usually I just read these but...Miscuit, you're joking, right? If not, where is this 'truth' of which you speak so that we all may know it and stop arguing about it? Perspective, ie, the way one is raised, their religion, education, etc, is all that anyone has to base 'the truth' on, isn't it?

Re: Obama's approval ratings continue to drop - 06/10/09 03:15 PM
But we've all learned, Truff, that the world is not black and white. There are many, many shades of gray.
Joe the Dem sees Obama's spending as Great; John the Pubbie thinks its horrible. Which is the truth? It's all in the way you look at it.
Bobby - whether they're 2 or 22 or 82, men always seem to have the mentality of a 2 year old

Re: Obama's approval ratings continue to drop - 06/10/09 03:16 PM
maybe i'm confusing "truth" with "fact"?
so the way you were raised, your religion, your education, etc. would lead you to a different "truth" as to what makes a square a square? (as in BF's explanation)
hmmmm...interesting
and no...i wasn't joking

Re: Obama's approval ratings continue to drop - 06/10/09 03:20 PM
Ok, so we're talking 'truth' vs 'fact'. Fact is a square is a square. Perspective (back to your core beliefs) influences whether you believe what BO is preaching is the truth or not. All I'm saying is I agree with the concept of perspective influencing what one believes to be the truth.

Not necesarily.
TRUTH: Earth is round (basically)
FACT (circa 1400's): Earth is flat
Basic truths don't change; facts can.

but i thought that was just a "theory"...
wasn't a fact until it was proven/disproven
isn't this fun?

I agree with Truff.
You cannot dispute that a square is a square.....it is a fact. On the other hand, as a Christian I believe there is a God and only ONE God....that is the truth to ME based on my beliefs and upbringing. However, for those of other denominations (or those who are athiests) that is NOT the truth. Since it cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt by us human beings, I suppose, it cannot be a fact.
NOTE: NOT trying to make this about religion, just used it as an example.

I'd say you have them switched, P.B.
But, here's what the world reknowned source Wiki says:
Truth
The meaning of the word truth extends from honesty, good faith, and sincerity in general, to agreement with fact or reality in particular. The term has no single definition about which the majority of professional philosophers and scholars agree. Various theories of truth continue to be debated. There are differing claims on such questions as what constitutes truth; how to define and identify truth; the roles that revealed and acquired knowledge play; and whether truth is subjective, relative, objective, or absolute. This article introduces the various perspectives and claims, both today and throughout history.
So, if the majority of scholars and philosophers can't agree, you can bet a bunch of bankers never will either.

Ok, perhaps my analogies will straigthen things out for all of you:
Fact - I am currently employed
Fact - My hair is brown (after grecian)
Truth - I am MAD DIESEL and Drop Dead Gorgeous HUNK
Truth - The Pittsburgh Steelers are the greatest sports franchise in history.
Do you understand the stark differences? If not then:
fact - you just don't get it
truth - you need an open-hand italian slap in the mouth
Do you agree with my facts and truth? If no then:
fact - you have no taste and need help
truth - you will get both an open-hand slap and a backhand across your cakehole when I see you.
fact - If you are a woman, you will agree once you lay eyes on me. AND THAT'S THE TRUTH!!!
