What's on Your Favorite Playlist - 08/15/09 04:00 AM

Put your iPod on Shuffle. Go to one of your favorite Playlists. Tell us the name of the Playlist. If the Playlist has a theme, tell us what it is. Then list the first 10 songs.

One of my favorite playlists is my Pop Favorites of the 70's. There's some really hokey and obscure 1970s Top 40 songs on it. And some really bad stuff. Stuff so bad, it's good. A lot of one hit wonders. I couldn't stop at 10; here's my top 20:

1. Only Sixteen - Dr. Hook
2. Get Dancin' - Disco Tex
3. Hey Deannie - Shaun Cassidy
4. Dancin' in the Moonlight - King Harvest
5. Little Willy - Sweet
6. Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood - Santa Esmerelda
7. A Fifth of Beethoven - Walter Murphy
8. The Gambler - Kenny Rogers
9. Give Me Just a Little More Time - Chairmen of the Board
10. Frankenstein - Edgar Winter Group
11. Spiders and Snakes - Jim Stafford
12. Clap for the Wolfman - The Guess Who
13. Coward of the County - Kenny Rogers (2 from him? I only have 4 on my iPod)
14. Come and Get Your Love - Redbone
15. Band of Gold - Freda Payne
16. Saturday Night - Bay City Rollers
17. Rainy Night In Georgia - Brook Benton
18. Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get - Dramatics
19. In the Heart of the Night - Poco
20. You Made Me Believe In Magic - Bay City Rollers (again, weird, I only have 3 songs by them on the iPod)

Wow, that brings back some memories! Dancin' in the Moonlight was one of those favorite "feel good" high school songs.

Rainman--

I've got tons of these old 1970s hits. It is a blast to listen to them. Some of them are so awful they're good. I love to play when I have people over and watch the look on their faces. Many of them are songs that haven't been played in 30+ years.

Holy cow, this playlist makes me want to eat a rare piece of steak and hit something made of metal with something else made of metal.

I am so downloading those songs. It's been too long since I've heard Static-X

Re: What's on Your Favorite Playlist - 08/17/09 04:01 PM

I get moods, so it really depends on the day. Top 3:

1. Mastodon (because anyone who makes a concept album based on Moby Dick has my utmost respect)
2. Strapping Young Lad
3. Norma Jean (specifically the Bless the Martyr, Kiss the Child album. I listened to it on a loop for 2 months when I was in college- the other stuff not so much)

Is "Orphaned Land" considered a metal band? If so, I like what I've heard from them.

I've never heard of them/that...

Re: What's on Your Favorite Playlist - 08/17/09 04:16 PM

They are from Israel. I'm not sure if they're still together. A very interesting mix of Western and Eastern music in a hard rock format.

You've changed names again, I see. Did you Tweet about that?!

I think Amy Winehouse has an AMAZING voice but yeah, I can't listen to any of her other stuff, they're soooo trashy. It's a shame, really, because she really is talented.

Difficult for me to choose a favorite but the ones that get the most plays on my ipod are The Color Green, Sometimes by Step, The Love of God, Creed and If I stand.

Re: What's on Your Favorite Playlist - 08/19/09 03:23 AM

I also like RM's cover of Mark Heard's "How to Grow Up Big and Strong." Plus I think "Susan Said" and "Boy Like You, Man Like Me" are great songs.
