Cannon or Nikon? - 11/17/10 11:09 PM

I want to get a camera for my 23 year old daughter. Would like to spend less than $200. She wants a camera she can keep in her purse. Any suggestions?

I have a little Kodak Sure Shot (?) - it takes very decent pics, fits in your purse and costs around $130. Not a Nikon or Canon, but I like it.

Canon and Nikon are amazing cameras but might be a little hard to find for $200. I agree with Tigg on the Kodak. All the kids in my family have one.

A lot of the Cannon Powershots are under $200. I've always liked them - I'm on my 3rd. (upgraded once and dropped one with lens out, sob.) Very compact and easy to use - my kids even can use mine.

My fav brand of camera has always been Canon, as well.

At that price range they all are good. I would try to match features to what daugher wishes to do with the camera. My wife had 2 Olympus $500.00 loved them now uses a $60.00 black friday Walmart Kodak and it is much better. Whichever camera you buy today will be cheaper and better next year.

I have a nikon digital slr D50 camera that takes amazing pictures..very pricy..very bulky..the one I carry the most? My daughters Canon Powershot...it takes great everyday pictures and video, easy to operate and resonably priced..I think around $150.

I had a Canon Elph and loved it. Have recently stolen a Nikon S3000 from a friend and love it even more. Its tiny, stays in my purse and takes great pictures! He's not getting it back...

I'm looking for an easy to use camera that has fast speed for taking pictures of the kids in sports. Every camera I have had so far is slow and by the time I push the button and the picture actually takes the shot is missed. Any suggestions?

Get something besides Digital and use a high-speed film!

Have the kids play a slower sport like golf.

My ex hubby has a Nikon Digital SLR with a high speed attachment. He sent me pics of our daughter at ball practice and they were amazing. It's an investment, but a great camera.

My BILs Cannon EOS Rebel has a rapid fire setting. It will take 5 (??) pictures in a row just a second or two apart. I used it at the horse races in Hot Springs and loved the pictures. The sequences of them coming out of the gate were awesome.

What is a high-speed attachment? We have a Digital SLR and the auto focus delay is a killer.

I'm looking for a new camera as well so I am taking notes!

I'm not the best picture taker in the world and just need something small to tuck in my purse or a pocket.

I had a several years old Canon and it took better shots than the Digital SLR did that the person with me was using. Just bought a new small version that would fit in my purse and not as heavy after Christmas last year. The store clerk recommended it due to the type of pictures it takes. She said Canon is the best.

Which Canon was the one that you have that fits in your purse?

Can't remember if it was a susreshot or powershot. It is pink. I really wanted a small flat one but they didn't have one and this was on sale. It is a little bigger on one end where you hold onto it. But it is small and has some nice extra features with a large screen. It also have a viewfinder which makes it easier to use in places where you can't see the screen like outside in the sun.

I went to Wal Mart on Black Friday and looked at the DSC-W330 14.1 mp camera with Carl Zeiss lens. I'm carrying it every day and forcing myself to take lots of everything just for practice. I need to find a neoprene case for it so i can have it outside and not worry about the glare on it and so it doesn't get scratched.
