Black Dagger Brotherhood discussion **SPOILERS**

Opening this thread by request.

WARNING:

There will be spoilers included in this discussion, so if you have not finished the most recent installment of the series, you may not want to look!

Ok I will go first, I am positive the next book will be qhuinn and blaylock, with Layla getting preggers and her attachment to xcor. My problem with lover Reborn was that it just ended to neatly, I cannot fathom them both loving each other at that moment. Maybe I was just thinking it was too quick for Tohr.

She is going to announce this weekend at a book signing who the next one is about

I'm thinking along the same lines, kms. Way, way too neatly tied up.

I halfway expect her to throw us a curve ball and have the next book be about Assail, but that would jump her pattern by one installment. Usually the new character is a sideline for two books before they get their own story.

I guess that pattern would make the next book belong to Xcor, huh?

I'm thinking like kms and the next one will be about Quinn & Blay. This book was not my favorite, Phury was my least favorite until now, I'm not sure if this one is now the bottom for me or if Phury's still on the bottom. I can't put my finger on the exact reason why this wasn't my favorite, except that I think I was just done with hearing about Tohr & Wellsie. I wasn't happy with the way things started off with John & Xhex, but I was really glad with the way that story line ended and John manned up and let Xhex be who she is.

So which one book is everyone's fav? I have a hard time picking between Z and Rhev!

I am a Rhage girl here! I was happy to have a little more him in this one. It seems like V gets a lot in every book.

I will say I was crying my eyes out when each of the Brothers came to Tohrs room before the fade ceremony!

The next one could be the love pentagon of Blay/Qhuinn/Saxton/Layla/Xcor. I have no idea how she will unravel this all!

I don't think I can pick a favorite.

I have been patiently waiting for the Blay/Qhuinn/Saxton triangle to play out. I am hoping it comes to fruition in the next novel. I am glad Layla has gotten 'used'. Took her long enough...all that frustration and dejection. Didn't Blay have a vision about their young a couple of novels ago?

Xcor and Layla...she will be the taming of the heathen, similar to Mary's taming of Rhage's dragon.

I can't wait for the next chapter!

As far as my favorite? I think it was Wrath and Beth....the first one. It defined the brotherhood and brought each of the characters to life.

Finally finished. I think the next one will be Qhuinn. He will become a Brother. I think those are the Daggers V was making.

I like V, Rhev and Rhage the best. I think there isn't enough of all of them in each book.

Oh I was thinking they were the ones he gave tohr but then torh did say those took over a year to make..

They can't make Qhuinn a Brother until Saxton finds whatever he was looking for in all those Old Law books. Remember his line about "I've been given an impossible task and no time in which to accomplish it" or something like that, anyway.

Do you think they'll induct just Qhuinn, or he and John Matthew together?

I think they will induct Qhuinn alone. I think each of the brotherhood deserves to have the induction ceremony dedicated to one warrior at a time, but then again, I am just a human....

I'm not sure who the next book will be about but probably Xcor (or maybe Lassiter?) as she has said that Blay and Qhuinn's story will be in a novella.

At any rate, I liked the book but am not quite convinced on the whole Tohr/Autumn matching. I mean, if he really loved her wouldn't the bonding scent have come out at some point? At the very least at the end of the book?

And, this is the second book where we have seen a lot of side stories. Think this is the new M.O. for JR Ward?

Oh, and how do they induct Qhuinn and not John Matthew?

I think she's trying to build a strong enough universe/canon to keep the series going now that the bulk of the main characters have gotten their HEAs.

And I want to know if Lassiter's story is going to happen via BDB or the Angels series.

That's what I'm wondering. There's that whole issue of Q being "bound" to JM because of the private guard thing.

Because we HAVE to have Lassiter's story...and soon! Hmmm...I wonder if the next Fallen Angels book is out there for pre-order yet?

And the fact that JM is full blooded being Darius' son. You'd think that would grant him an automatic in right there.

But his mother wasn't a Chosen - at least as far as they know.

And besides, he's not really Darius' son - he's Darius reincarnated, remember?

Oh yeah, that's right on the Chosen.

And, we know that JM is Darius reincarnated but the Brothers don't. LOL

I'm just curious to see how things are going to change with the BOB in the picture now. And how does Assail fiy into the whole scheme of things? And, no mention of Murhder in this book but I wonder when he's going to make an appearance? I thought maybe he'd be the thing that caused the issues with JM and Xhex but apparently not?

And what about Throe? He's the son of a Brother, but ended up blackmailed into the BOB.

And I'd almost forgotten about Murhder!

I've been wondering about this. No one seems to mention this. They make comments about JM looking so much like Darius, but it never goes any farther than that. I keep wondering how much longer until it comes out that he is Darius.

I'm also wondering about Assail & Murhder, when the Murhder thing went no where, I kept waiting for something to come back about it. I guess there's a point, we'll probably just ahve to wait.

IDK, I'll have to do some digging on her website tonight to see if she's still planning a novella.

And, I don't know that we've ever had a definite answer to the JM/Darius issue. My feelings are that JM is truly Darius' son and that Darius was reincarnated into him (if that makes sense). Here's why I think that...remember Xhex always saw two grids with JM until he was zapped by Lash and then they melded. Just my opinion though.

Interesting theories....I can't believe we have to wait until 2013 for the next book.....

Finally finished. Liked it a lot, agree with most everything above. I'm unsure how I feel about the next book being Blay and Qhuinns. Layla and Saxon will make it very interesting.

And Xcor and Throe. Could be an interesting little love.....hexagon?

Exactly. Every time I start to put together a theory on how she's going to unravel this cluster I find a gaping hole.

Manimal, I received several emails over a stretch of time telling me the lawsuit was happening, then that I was eligible, then finally on March 24th or so got the one that told me how much. I didn't have to do anything to get it.

Ok, so I finished yesterday

Just got my credit email - $81.53! Yeah, I buy a LOT of books.

I still haven't started The King, though. I did a full re-read of the whole series to catch up on it and am not quite halfway through Lover At Last.

I'm behind too! I thought I had them all read. I'm reading Unleashed and just downloaded LAL.

And? General thoughts? Spoiler-free if you'd like.

I'm anticipating finishing tonight. I'm also anticipating a late night...

Ok, I don't want to give anything away. But, some of it I'm conflicted on. Some build up and then, the resolution and I'm thinking, really, that's it? I love JM, but the relationship between him & Beth seems out of left field, doesn't seem like they had much if any interaction. Expecially at one point he tells her something and she's surprised, and I was like, really, everyone knew that, how could she not know.

Overall, I liked it. I did like all the other storylines in that it wasn't all just about Wrath. I love Assail!

Can't wait til more of you are done. Want to see others thoughts on some of it.

I always wondered why she didn't build a relationship between them from the get-go. I mean, they knew they were related, shouldn't they be happy to have one another??? Same thing with Mary and JM, they were friends before his transition. And Mary and Bella. Sometimes I wonder if the storylines are SO complex, she has to cut out all the other stuff that some of us would appreiciate seeing.

Just got my credit email at 2ish this morning. $57 in book credits gives me the warm and fuzzies.

GAH! I'm just over halfway through it. And while it's not bad, I'm not head-over-heels about any of the characters/plotlines.

I'm not a huge fan of all the different storylines going on at the same time. Too much bouncing around and I start to lose interest.

I think there is great potential for the Trez/Selena and Assail/Sola stories but time will tell.

I really liked the other stories, probably better than Wrath or Beth. There are a couple of things I want to say, but I don't want to give anything away - how do you create those "click to reveal" buttons...I'm totally lost as to how to do it.

At my current pace of one chapter per night, I should be done mid June.

Finished. I'm glad some of the larger issues have been resolved and we are getting some new stuff through Trez/iAm. BUT... I didn't think there was nearly enough action (fighting I mean) and none of the "new" couples really drew me in at all. This one fell a little flat for me, but I'm hoping it's setting up some EPIC payback for the next story.

Started someone at work on the series. She loves it. After finishing Book #2, she was sure that Phury is gay. It was really hard not to say anything.

Black Dagger Brotherhood: Highly-trained vampire warriors who protect their species against the Lessening Society. They are not siblings for the most part and are inducted into the Brotherhood upon nomination by the Brothers. Aggressive, self-reliant and secretive by nature, they exist apart from civilians, having little contact with members of the other classes except when they need to feed. They are the subject of legend and the object of reverence within the vampire world.


THE BROTHERS


Wrath: the last purebred vampire on the planet and the vampire race's king. Essentially blind, he is the leader who is not willing to lead until he is forced to care for a half-breed he falls in love with.

Rhage: the strongest of the brothers and the best fighter. Cursed by the Scribe Virgin, he is possessed by a dark side which is a danger to everyone. Ultimately, though, he is gentled by a very special human woman.

Zsadist: the most lethal of the brothers. A former blood slave who was mercilessly tortured during the first hundred years of his life, Z is the one who has fallen farthest from grace. But he is utterly worthy of redemption.

Tohrment: the steady one, the calm one. He is the one whose betrayal by fate will cut the deepest.

I am 54% done with The Shadows. I think the only thing that stopped me reading when I did last night was that my Kindle shut down because my battery was depleted.

I'm so hooked I've got a license plate frame for the BDB, and now two T-Shirts- a BDB and one that says TRUE?

I just got my one friend two magnets (V and Butch) for Easter and the girl at work that I started on the series is getting a BDB key chain for her birthday in a few weeks.

I think my biggest gripe is that she has way too many story lines going.

And some of the best sidelines go absolutely nowhere, which is incredibly frustrating. I still want to know what happened to Murhder!

Sarah's theory could be it, as that was talked about in the book. I just feel like it's something more. I didn't like him in this book at all. Not sure exactly why.

I finished The King over the weekend and am not on pg. 188 of The Shadows. Interesting to say the least!

For some unknown reason, I just never finished the Shadows. And I have no desire to read the new book about Rhage. I really didn't like what she was doing with Rhage in the Shadows and it really turned me off. Anyone else feel that way?

I don't know if I will read the new book of the predictable plots. Although, in the next book Rhage and Mary are already married and she can't have children so it would have to be a little different.

I have not pre-ordered. For some reason, as much as I love Rhage, this one doesn't have me chomping at the bit.

I've got it pre-ordered, but unless she really REALLY delivers this time this will be my last release day purchase of a Ward book. The last few have just been too disappointing.

And yes, the "mortal injury" line is bugging the carp out of me. If the injury was mortal, HE DIDN'T SURVIVE to reassess anything. ARGH!

That didn't hit me until you said it, I was too busy wondering where she was going with all this nonsense. Now it bugs the carp out of me.

Maybe the mortal injury is not his but he is suffering from the loss of a brother?

I want to know why she is going back through and re-telling stories about the original Brothers. Why isn't she following up on any of the side stories she so painstakingly set up over the series - like Murhder (or however she spelled that), or Assail, or even any of the BOBs?

That's ^^^ what I want to know. I want Assail's book. I was really into that story with Sola! And she just dropped it.

I want Murhder's story! I love the idea of his grumpy, crazy self 'haunting' that old Carolina mansion.

I did finish Shadows but I just don't see myself going forward with this. I think I will miss the players but not the downward spiral of their stories. I only like happy endings. Anything else depresses me. Feel free to now make fun of me. Everyone else does.

I still don't think it's as strong as the early books, but it's a HUGE improvement over the last two - possibly the last four. IMHO, they've been on a downhill slide since Lover Unleashed.

So, I just read Blood Kiss and enjoyed it. Parts of it were so funny I had to go back and re-read them. The swimming pool scene with Lassiter is hilarious!


I still have to read The Beast and then it's on to The Chosen.

I finished The Chosen yesterday. It was better than the last few, I think I read the entire thing in less than 48 hours, but she had A LOT going on. That's not unusual for her, but I almost felt like it was too much. I am interested in the new enemy and think he will be a good one, better than Lessers.

I finished The Chosen this weekend, too. Like Jen said - a LOT going on, but overall better than the last few books. I tend to get a little annoyed at the way she leaves the interesting sideplots hanging, sometimes.

Agreed and so far hasn't come back to many of them. She did bring up Assail a teeny bit but it's been a while since we've heard anything about Murhder.

I was a little disappointed regarding Assail.

I wondered why she even brought it up...unless he's going to make an appearance in the next book. Which, do we have a title/topic yet? Doesn't she usually announce them on the current book tour?

I just finished The Chosen. I enjoyed it, but again she leaves way too many story lines hanging. Now I am tackling Blood Vow. You certainly need to read The Beast before you read this one or it would take a bit to catch up with the Rhage and Mary story line.

They were all okay- not as good as some of the previous ones. The Thief has some cute moments in it and a surprise about the Scribe Virgin.

I finished The Thief last night. Is it just me or does she appear to be getting ready to wrap things up?

She's announced her next book was going to be about Murdher. I haven't started the Thief yet. I'm doing a re-read of the whole series. Lover Reborn took me forever to finish. That one is not my favorite. Now on Lover at Last.

I finished as well last night. I agree with Becca (as usual) on wrapping the series up. The last few books have had A LOT of different story lines going. This one seemed to have fewer loose ends.

Dang it, I need to get caught up...especially if she's finally going to write a story about Murhder!

Do the Legacy books come into play as well?

Sort of. You can get by in the story without them, but some of the characters and side-plots make more sense if you've read both series and the novellas.

I've not read any of the novellas, maybe that's what I could pick up next.

You really need to read the novella with Saxton & Rhun's story.

The one with Saxton and Rhun is the newest Legacy book Blood Fury that is really Payton's story. I think it was released in January 2018.

Looks like JR Ward has a new book out that is related to the Black Dagger Brotherhood. I think the review I read said they are mentioned in the book. It's called Prisoner of the Night.

Has anyone read JR's new book Consumed? I think it is about an arson investigator. I plan to work on that one while I travel also.

I read the novellas that lead up to it, but have not downloaded Consumed yet. I'm having trouble wanting it badly enough to cough up release price.

So...anyone read The Savior? Before I read it, I was totally disinterested, didn't care about Murhder, had zero desire for what I thought the story line would be. But wow, I was surprised. I thought it was one of the best books she's written in the series in a long time. I was really disappointed in The Thief (and I love Assail). But totally redeemed on this one.

I've read it! I agree - it was a VERY welcome change from what the last few books have been and much more in line with the original ones.

If the last one you read was The Shadows, then yes - I believe that is correct.

Yes, that's right. I tried reading The Beast, skimmed a lot and didn't finish. I skipped The Chosen and went right into The Thief. Wasn't impressed with any of them until The Savior!

I thought about skipping a couple but I got an eye twitch.

I can't skip ahead in series. I just can't. And if I realize partway in that a new read is part of a series and NOT book #1, I panic a little bit and immediately have to locate the first book.

Nope. Just nope...I'll quit a series before I can skip parts.
