Big Bang Theory - 11/30/12 06:56 PM

I know there are several Big Bang Theory fans out there besides me (and I couldn't find the other thread where we were posting). Did you watch it last night? I thought it was hysterical - especially when Sheldon was sitting in Howard's car.

One of my fave exchanges:

Bernadette: Gosh, Amy. I'm sensing a little hostility. Is it maybe because like Sheldon's work, your sex life is also theoretical?

Penny: Damn.

Amy: Well, at least, when we do make love, Sheldon won't be thinking about his mother.
Posted By: Princess Romeo

Re: Big Bang Theory - 11/30/12 10:19 PM

Or these from Sheldon:

Quote:
Well, that's some salty language. May I remind you that you're the president of a major university, not president of the Potty Mouth Club. There it is again. Do you kiss your mother with that mouth? Oh, I'm sorry for your loss. Good night, sir.

All you have to do, TJ, is call and question why long-time customers, such as yourself, don't get a special deal. Why do NEW customers get discounts. Existing customers are the people who deserve a better deal. I did that a few months ago. I now have On Demand free, 120 channels, all movie channel, and pay $150.00 a month. I did that last year. I fought and yelled at the woman on the phone (who yelled back at me) for over 30 minutes and she agreed to "Rebundle" me, keep my rate basically the same for a year, give me more channels, blah, blah, blah. When I went to the local office to pick up the receiver, I was explaing the deal I had hammered out with the lady on the phone and after I explained it she said "Yeah, that's the existing customer loyalty bundle. We do that all the time." Then a week later they took away half my channels mad

Re: Big Bang Theory - 12/03/12 02:05 PM

thomas - I have seariously thought about going with DirectTV; however I would have to keep Insight (our cable company) for our Internet service. I'm probably going to up my cell phone minutes and get rid of our house phone, too. Our bill right now is about $165 per month with one DVR, Internet and phone.

Dish...well...it's better than the cable company.

Internet - AT & T which BITES!

Re: Big Bang Theory - 12/03/12 02:30 PM

The biggest problem I would have is getting decent internet. The only thing that would compare around here is Verizon DSL and I have heard nightmares about that. I would then need to do some sort of dish - and with the snow in the winter time combined with the fact that we have like 6 TV's would probably be a deal breaker.

Re: Big Bang Theory - 12/03/12 05:19 PM

That episode came up for discussion yesterday while at a football game get-together.
One guy said he didn't like Sheldon because he's so narcisstic.
I've never thought of him as that.
Just geeky to the point of being oblivious to any societal norms...kind of aspberger-esque.
It wasn't easy to listen to this person dun Sheldon. frown

knock, knock, knock, Penny would be my t-shirt choice. smile

I'm in total agreement with you Truff. To him what is - is and he can't see otherwise or understand 'feelings'.
Posted By: Pale Rider

Re: Big Bang Theory - 12/03/12 05:32 PM

How is lacking in societal norms equal to being a geek? The character is very poorly socialized, he is scary. I guess there are worse character flaws.
Posted By: Truffle Royale

Re: Big Bang Theory - 12/03/12 05:46 PM

Not equal to, Pale. He's so absorbed in all things geeky that he has blinders on to the way the world around him acts or reacts. Look up aspberger syndrome, which by the way is being eliminated from the Med diagnoses book. It describes difficulty interacting socially. That's how I see Sheldon. Definitely not narcissistic which means full of self and taking advantage of others, etc. I don't think Sheldon has a truly mean bone in his body. He's just immune to the world.

The word geek is a slang term for odd or non-mainstream people, with different connotations ranging from "a computer expert or enthusiast" to "a person heavily interested in a hobby", with a general pejorative meaning of "a peculiar or otherwise dislikable person, esp[ecially] one who is perceived to be overly intellectual".[1]

I think you could work that in there somehow. smile

Actually - Bernadette summed up Sheldon quite brilliantly in one episode when she told Howard:

Quote:
Sheldon doesn't know when he's being mean because the part of his brain that should know is getting a wedgie from the rest of his brain

My brother is Sheldon - so I oughta know!

(And just like Leonard, I played the Cello in Jr. High and High School.)

I agree with you Truff - Sheldon def is not mean nor does he take advantage of people. Remember the episode in which he gave Penny all the money she needed to pay her past due bills and told her she could re-pay whenever she could. Leonard explained to Penny that no matter how "weird" Shelodin can be one of his redeeming qualities is that he has no limits on helping his friends. I LOVE that little moonpie

Re: Big Bang Theory - 12/11/12 10:20 PM

I watch BBT on reruns every night at 10:30 and Tues and Thurs nights on TBS. Mostly because I can't see to remember when it is on on primetime.

Anyway, my favorite episode so far is when Sheldon has coffee for the first time. "I'll be back before this banana hits the floor"...zoom, zoom, zoom

One of my favs is when Sheldon tries to learn how to drive. The scene at the DMV is PRICELESS!

Quote:
DMV Lady: Take this to the testing area, put your name at the top, sign the bottom, answer the questions, bring it back, next!

Sheldon: Excuse me, but I have some concerns about these questions.

DMV Lady: Look at that sign up there.

Sheldon: Yes?

DMV Lady: Does it say I give a damn?

Sheldon: No.

DMV Lady: That’s because I don’t.

Quote:

Sheldon: Just, look, see, this first question makes no sense, how many car lengths should you leave in front of you when driving? There’s no possible way to answer that, a car length is not a standardized unit of measure.

DMV Lady: Look at the sign.

Penny: Sheldon, it’s C, just put down C.

Sheldon: I don’t need your help, Penny.

DMV Lady: Listen to that little girl, honey, put C. Next!

Sheldon: No, no, wait, no, hang on, look at this next question.

Howard: Sheldon, why are you arguing with the DMV?

Sheldon: How else are they going to learn? Look, question 2, when are roadways most slippery? Now, okay, there are three answers, none of which are correct. The correct answer is, when covered by a film of liquid sufficient to reduce the coefficient of static friction between the tire and the road to essentially zero, but not so deep as to introduce a new source of friction.

DMV Lady: Here’s your learner’s permit. Go away.

Sheldon: But I’m not done. I have many additional concerns about these questions.

DMV Lady: Don’t make me climb over this counter.

Penny: Come on, let’s go.

DMV Lady: Next!

Also - one of the unsung hero of the series is the lady who plays the nurse every time there is a scene at a hospital or medical office. She was in the original pilot and I think has made 3 appearances since.

A very surly type of humor - kind of like Pale.

The lady at the DMV also played Minnie in 'The Help'. PR - love that lady, too - especially when Howard ate the peanuts.

Just love, love, love this show. I can't wait until Thursday's when we have a new episode, but I'd gladly watch any rerun.

"Previous" neighbor? I wish! He's still there.

And I did mean it as a compliment. You are my favorite curmudgeon now that Andy Rooney is gone.

Re: Big Bang Theory - 12/12/12 07:10 PM

Yeah - Notice of Default was filed in May, but with all of the foreclosure legislation rolling around and the fact that the lender is one of the "Big 5" servicers under scrutiny, nothing else has happened that I can find.

I can only imagine he's living there payment free for now. Since there is a huge judgement lien on the property, I don't think he can do a modification or work-out. So I am playing the waiting game, and the dogs still stay inside when I'm not home.

Don't forget the time Howard brought home the robotic arm and had to go to the ER because it was....well, you know where it was!

Priceless dialogue:
Quote:

Nurse: My, my, my. What do we have here?

Howard: I slipped and fell.

Nurse: Yeah, we get that a lot. What is this?

Howard: It’s a robot arm.

Nurse: Where’s the rest of the robot?

Howard: I only built the arm.

Nurse: ‘Cause that’s all you needed, right?

Our backyard is very secure and we have a huge covered patio. Plus the weather in So. Cal. is mild, so everyone in the neighborhood usually has their dogs (unless they are tiny dogs and mine definitely are not tiny) in the backyard during the day. Except me.
