Cool, unusual homes - 12/03/12 06:11 PM

Few would consider the idea of converting nonresidential structures into homes but there are those who are more adventurous. The range of unusual structures is broad; from grain silos to old fire towers architects have stretched their imaginations to create truly unique homes.

The first picture of the airplane is not a home, it's a Hotel in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica. I've been there. It's really cool. There's an airplane restaurant there too.

I've seen a couple of features on the storage compartment homes. They are cool.

The ones they've done in old missile silos are neat, too.

I've been by the boat many times by water and on land. I think that the boat is being used as a bed and breakfast now.

So did I! Can't decide if I want to live in a tree house, a yurt or a converted missle silo.... Hmmmmmmmm, decisions, decisions. Although I do really like the tiny houses.

There is this wackadoodle place that sits on a lone peak above Denver CO. Its been there since I was a kid and was used in the Woody Allen movie "Sleeper".
Its also made several of the "10 Ugliest Houses" Lists. smile

I *love* the tiny houses. I've also seen a cool tree-house home (best of both worlds, tiny house in a tree!)

Re: Cool, unusual homes - 12/05/12 03:01 PM

I've seen that one!

The tiny houses are cute...but I can't really imagine living in one...a TREE house...now THAT's another story. cool

Oklahoma -
Container homes and tree house homes would attract tornados like a magnet!!

Re: Cool, unusual homes - 12/05/12 03:05 PM

I could see living in a tiny house if the climate was nice enough to spend a lot of time outside. Then I'd put my money into buying a big lot. smile

When I was in Philly a few weeks ago, there were some people who had converted highway overpasses into homes. They didn't look real comfortable though....

Article in our hometown paper a few days ago was about the 15 people/families living under an overpass we have downtown. Who knew? eek

Re: Cool, unusual homes - 12/05/12 05:09 PM

Overpasses, bad place in a tornado. So if you are going to live in one, you will need to build a basement. JS
