Disney movie club - 01/09/13 08:43 PM

Anyone had any experience with the Disney movie club?

I have a 12 week old son and thought about joining to start a collection but there are a lot of negative reviews about them.

I'm afraid all my little ones are big ones now.

It's just like any movie or music club. "Get xx free when you join and buy xx at full price." My wife was in it for a while and seemed happy with it. Good selection, bit pricey for my taste.

There may be a whole new medium for viewing by the time your child is old enough to watch Disney movies.

I have a storage unit full of video discs, beta tapes, VHS, DVD, blue-ray, 3-D....it goes on and on....

I would wait a few years .......

I would collect them at yard sales. But Pale is right. We've got a bookcase full of VHS movies in our basement storage area.

You can build your own collection for much cheaper by googling a list of the types of movies you want, and buying them at Wal-mart (or other store) when they are on sale or a previously viewed one on Amazon or ebay. I "collect" the classics (Snow White, Pinnochio, etc). The club has those plus TONS of others you may not even wnat (ie Snowbuddies, etc). The club also charges full price (15 to 20 per movie) plus shipping.

Also, remember that those club memberships come with strings. You can't cancel until you have purchased X number of movies at regular price AND you have to respond to the mailings by a certain date in order to avoid having them send you a movie you didn't even want.

what you should do is not buy your kid anything...then, when they grow they have the built in excuse that they didn't get anything as a kid, and that way they have no responsibility for their actions! It's a win-win...you save money, kid has it easy...

Aren't Disney movies filled with subliminal sex messages and fairytale endings that never happen anyways? whistle

There is also a Disney Visa credit card that earns Rewards Points. Those points can be used at Disney World as well as on the Disney Store website. I have gotten a lot of movies for "free" that way. The points are good for a few years, so you can collect them and store them up before buying the DVD/Blue-Ray of the future.

I thought I could find them cheaper somewhere else. The initial deal looks pretty good but when you have to buy them at the regular club price, they are more expensive than at places like Walmart.

A lot of the reviews stated that they would charge for movies that the customer says they did not order. Plus I think you get a letter with a recommended movie each month that will be sent if you do not return the notice stating you do not want it. I can see myself forgetting to do that.

Thanks for all the advice.

Those clubs always seem to do that kind of thing, I was in a book club. It was a PITA to have to return the unwanted monthly books.

Totally agree with this. I think the movie club is a rip-off, to be honest.

Yes, there are hags aplenty in those flix, but I think Ursula was the only true one from the sea.
