I'm by no means a Gaga fan. I think some of her music is catchy. Sort of the same way with Miley. But from what I've seen being covered on the latter, I would have to say the former has a bit more tact.

Of the two, Lady Gaga at least seems to have talent. Kinda hard to say that about Miley.

I feel like LG has some kind of 'vision' for her art.

Seeing as that she is almost a 21 year old adult, I'm not sure that it is fair to continue to hold her father accountable for her actions, especially since it doesn't even appear they have much of a relationship with each other over the last few years.

As for me, if she was my daughter, I don't care if she is 31. She is not acting like an adult. She is being reckless and heading down a path that I am afraid will not end pretty.

As a father, I would go get my baby girl, bring her home and tell her I love her too much to watch her kill herself and I don't care if I have to chain myself to you until you come to your senses, I am not leaving.

Far as I see it, I don't stop being a father when they hit a certain age.

I watched the awards show last night, and I was rather annoyed with the fact that the cameras kept showing Taylor Swift every 5 seconds. I don't care what her reaction is to every single person on stage and every single word that is said.

I actually liked Drake's performance and even Kanye's, although I'm not a huge fan of either.... but my point is their performances were simple. No big groups on stage dancing or singing or whatever... just the artist and his microphone.

(Okay, Drake had some fiery explosions too, but I'm okay with that.)

The others need the spectacle to mask the fact that they have no real talent....

Gearge Strait. His concerts are him and his guitar. When you have that much talent, you dont need much else. You may or may not like country music, but he draws a sellout crowd and has been doing that way for 40 years. And with out being in the news every other week for being a twit. They dont call him "King George" for nothing!

They are an adult and get to make their own choices, good, bad or just plain stupid as it appears is the case with little Miss I'm-not-Hannah-anymore Cyrus. But then, there IS an audience for twerking, et al, and apparently that's who she's going after in this next phase of her career.

She is headed down the same path as Lindsay Loham (sp?). There have been pictures of her, drunk, smoking who knows what, and other post by her about drug use (exploration, etc). Her behavior is more than an act on stage. Plenty of post of her behavior on line.

Don't give me the, "She didn't ask to be a role model" carp either. When you step into the lime light as she has, it comes with the teritory, and you have the responsibility to own up to it.

Especially in her case, she built her fame on kids, unlike "lady" gagg gagg, who built her image on shock.

I have to disagree DD, my understanding is that she made a name for herself writing songs for other recording artists, and then by her involvement with LBGT activism and other philanthropic projects.

But that by no means equates to everyone loving her music, I totally get that.

I am referring to her "Image", I had never heard of her ( and I would guess the average person on the street too) until she started performing.

whole Hannah Montana thing was out there and that skyrocketed her to teeny bop fame. Her dad was part of that too.

What I take issue with is the manner in which she has decided to show the world she's all grown up. But then I am reminded that Harry Potter did a nude scene on broadway to proclaim his coming of age so what's a foam finger in the great grand scheme of things.

Personally, I think she's probably done more harm than good to her image and career but who am I to say?

There's a big difference between doing a nude scene in a Broadway production and prancing around in one's underwear making obscene gestures with an oversized foam finger, IMO. I don't recall Daniel Radcliffe bumping and grinding against other cast members.

Actually, he does quite graphically in Kill Your Darlings. Given both he and Miley were 'performing'. At least Daniel's is in a film you have to pay to see, not on a supposedly family friendly tv program.

I saw Daniel Radcliffe in both Equus and How to Succeed in Business on broadway, and was impressed with his talent (but not the amount of screaming 12-year old girls in the theater.) He took those roles seriously, and it really didn't seem gratuitous at all. This 3-ring circus is the epitome of "not serious," and is so much more designed to shock and show off than a role in a (very somber) broadway play...

So I gather that everyone agrees that Miley and her career planning team may have made a slight miscalculation in determining a manner in which to shed her Hannah Montanah alter ego image and establish her as serious and adult type "arteest"?

I have to say, the display she made of herself was everything but "adult," unless, of course, you made the argument that the "adult" part would be the same definition of the one used for stores along the highway with lots of purple neon and with whited out windows.

Please don't misinterpret what I'm trying to say as far as child actors chosing how to show that they've come of age.

I think Daniel is a serious actor who takes on roles that include sex as part of the storyline rather than gratuitously.

Even keeping in mind the difference between an actor and a singer, it appears to me that Miley is in it for the shock value with an overwhelming sprinkling of 'I can do whatever I damn well please' thrown in. Her 'performance' was shocking and has generated tons of reactions that keep her in the limelight. She doesn't seem to mind the ugly glare that it's cast on her.

Actually, she might have had better success had she chosen to go that route. At least that would have had a definable purpose. I still havent figured out the purpose of this other ....."thing".

It appears to me, Miley has accomplished what she set out to, regardless of the manner in doing so.

Here we are three days later, still dicussing her, but not a word about Macklemore and group's great performance and message, as well as Bruno Mars fantasic performance that evening, both of which deserve far more attention and applause.

Yet when it comes to one's Q score, Miley's is now off the charts thanks to her VMA stunts, and us not being able to stop talking about her...

Isn't it ironic that her father, Billy Ray, sits on the advisory board of The Parents Television Council? Man, he must have some regrets on the decisions he made.

My comment was meant tongue in cheek. I totally agree there's a huge difference as you pointed out, bOatn. Not to be more of a devil's advocate, but I think the industry that each of these two particular former child stars is in also influences and dictates acceptable forms of coming of age. In general, I'm so tired of watching singers grab themselves and twerk as a means of conveying their lyrics.

So why watch?

This is one of those times I'm really glad I just have my rabbit ears....... No cable, no satellite, no worries about this except on facebook where folks keep posting variations of this moment. Hopefully some day she will grow up to regret this action - which means she will mature and have some common sense.

I watched the clips online last night. First Gaga, then JT, then Miley. In terms of presentation and performance, Miley was a joke.

It was a selfish performance. She was up there to make herself feel good. Nothing was done for the benefit of the audience. It was the show of a girl that has surrounded herself by "yes men" all her life. Someone just needed to tell her that she looked and sounded stupid. The song, the singing, the walking around with no direction, were horrible. Even without the gyrating antics. It was just a terrible performance.

I watched the 15 minute JT performance twice. Wow. It was amazing. And Gaga, well it was pretty good too for someone that went through hip surgery in the last year. The shell bikini was odd, but it got the Applause (the name of the song). And I just love the song too.

Maybe I need to see Miley's video for the song she did. Would it help me to understand the "performance" more?

This time I watched a bit to see NSYNC. I also watch periodically to see what it is my grangirls are talking about. Parents are blogging this, imho rightly so, due to the perceived effect on their kids.

If you want it to stop, don't buy or read anything she associated with her. Once the light is off her, she'll fade away like a lot of other child stars. Right now, she's desparately trying to keep it on her.
