Speculative Question for Harry Dresden Fans - 10/25/13 12:26 PM
The subtitle for the next Captain America movie is "Winter Soldier".
Now, "Winter Soldier" has a certain meaning within the Marvel universe of characters and stories, and it has a certain meaning in military history.
Watching the trailer, there are hints of a crisis of conscience for Captain America when it seems that S.H.I.E.L.D. may not be the force for good it had promised to be.
Which made me wonder if "Winter Soldier" might also be a nod to Harry Dresden's role as "Winter Knight" under Queen Mab.
Hmmmmm?

Nope, because Winter Soldier does not refer to Captain America. The Winter Soldier is another character in the movie. The crisis of conscience is separate from the Winter Soldier story line.

Yes, Winter Soldier is another character, that's the strict meaning from the Marvel Universe. And given who the Winter Soldier is, or may be, I'm not so certain that the crisis of conscience is completely unrelated.
Anyway, the Winter Soldier reference can be more than just one thing, which is what has me pondering.

Is there a connection between the Marvel Universe and Harry Dresden? Unless there is, I would think it is a coincidence.

I don't know anything about the Marvel universe, but the Winter Court is prevalent in a lot of fantasy that deals with stories of the fae. Butcher is not the first to utilize them. (But I'm still a Harry fan!)

Well, the Marvel Universe has an entire fantasy neighborhood, so to speak, and fae or fae-inspired characters, so you never know what could weave into the story line.

Actually after having watched the trailer and being a comic book nerd from way back, yes the crisis of conscience is not related to the Winter Soldier story line. The crisis of conscience is more related to the Civil War story line and the Superhero Registration Act (which may or may not come up during subsequent sequels).

Purple,
I still suspect that Bucky in whatever incarnation, would remind Captain America of his original purpose and motivation and that would contribute to the crisis of conscience, particularly if there are also hints at the Superhero Registration Act.
YMMV.

He does not know that the Winter Soldier is Bucky, at least not initially. From the trailer, I thought that the Robert Redford character did more to drive the crisis of conscience.

good point. Amazing what we can read into a title and 45 seconds of trailer, huh?

I have not shared any information in this thread, outside of comic book story line speculation, that was not included in the official trailer released by Marvel yesterday.

I am curious if they will work in the death of Captain America in a future movie. It feels like they are headed that way.

I haven't seen the trailer yet. Does it identify who Winter Soldier is? I know from the books but those only watching the films don't know yet.

Re: Speculative Question for Harry Dresden Fans - 10/25/13 03:26 PM
no, it doesn't. Purple's point, which I agree with, is if you know the comic book story lines, you know, and can recognize the Winter Soldier as portrayed in the trailer.
So, if you know who Bucky is, it's not a spoiler. And if you don't know who Bucky is, it can't be a spoiler.

Re: Speculative Question for Harry Dresden Fans - 10/25/13 03:30 PM
I understand that but not everyone knows the comics. If you only saw the first movie you know who Bucky is and that he died.

Re: Speculative Question for Harry Dresden Fans - 10/25/13 03:44 PM
Or you thought he died. That is the thing about movies based on comic books, nothing is ever as it seems. There are always plot twists that you don't see coming.

Winter Soldier is not Winter Knight. Dresden files, while as awesome as Captain America, is not a part of the Marvel Multiverse.
But I'm hooked on the DC show Arrow simply because the guy who played Dresden in the short lived TV series plays a cop on the show!

CA 2 = Notice of Occupational Disease U. S. Department of Labor
and Claim for Compensation Office of Workers' Compensation Programs
I usually do not get that excited about a governmental form, but OK?

It seems like most of the movies coming out in the next year are sequels, prequels and follow ups. It's like readying comics or watching a TV series.
