Star Wars Ep 7

Star Wars Ep 7 - 11/28/14 08:08 PM

I had to watch the new episode 7 trailer on my lunch break. It made my friday so much better. There are a lot of fake trailers out there, so be careful that you don't get fooled.
Not sure how many bankers out there are also Star Wars fans, but I know there has to be a few.

I really think these new films will help erase the "prequals" from my memory.

Re: Star Wars Ep 7 - 12/01/14 05:58 PM

I saw a fake one - had to be fake since the storm troopers are clones and this one didn't look like the original clone without his helmet.

Re: Star Wars Ep 7 - 12/01/14 08:56 PM

FYI: Not all storm troopers are clones; that is the case for the timeperiod in which these films occur.

Re: Star Wars Ep 7 - 12/01/14 09:42 PM

I was a little underwhelmed by the trailer. It looks like an interesting movie, but I wasn't like AAAAAH STAR WARS!!! like I would expect to be.

The unmasked storm trooper being the first thing we see, the little hand-guard deal (whatever you call that) on the sith's blade, the over-the-shoulder camera work in the woods, Daisy on a speeder bike -- I think JJ's message is merely "Don't try to guess what this one's about, I'll (at least try to) surprise you in every way." Meh.

Re: Star Wars Ep 7 - 12/02/14 12:44 AM

I grew up with Star Wars, I was a kid when the first one came out. Seeing the Falcon in flight, with the music, gave me chills.

If you want to see a good video, look for the one with Kevin Smith (the director) going on the ep. 7 set. He got to go on the Millennium Falcon set. He said he ended up crying with emotion. Listening to him tell the story is pretty funny.

I will have to watch that clip Backstreets.
Has anyone ever see the movie Fanboys. It is about a group of fans and their journey to see Episode 1. It is a great movie (if you are a lifelong SW fan).

i just don't understand the people that geek out on this stuff...it's just a movie...10 minutes after the trailer was released there were hundreds of blogs critiquing it...sheesh

It's a teaser - not a trailer. And just hearing the theme music again gave me chills.

Has anyone seen the Lego ones on youtube? Pretty good and funny.

Re: Star Wars Ep 7 - 12/02/14 09:50 PM

Hmm... Name the only other two non-clone stormtroopers who we've ever seen unmasked. Ding, time's up, it was Han and Luke in disguise in Ep. IV rescuing Leia. So that dude in the teaser might be any hero or bounty hunter or rando other person simply wearing the stormtrooper getup as a disguise.

The clones were used to establish the Empire. Once Palpatine had control the clone process stopped. By Episodes 4, 5 and 6 they were using conscription.

Yes, I am a geek.

Re: Star Wars Ep 7 - 12/03/14 02:47 PM

I am so happy that this trailer has created such a buzz about SW again. I can't wait for a new story line to begin. I read a lot of the novels, so I am wondering how closley the movies will follow those story lines.
Plus, I am totally ready for some new SW lego sets to come out. Don't judge me; legos are for adults too. :)They are expensive, but cheaper than therapy

Re: Star Wars Ep 7 - 12/03/14 02:54 PM

I'm not a SW expert by any means. But one thing I did hear was that the next movie(s) won't follow the books closely if at all.

I started reading some of those and they were pretty good until so many different people starting writing them. I can't remember the name of the author whose books I did read. Once so many hands were in the pot I kind of gave up.

Want to see the Dark Horse comics made into movies. Luke goes darkside to get close to the resurrected (clone) emperor, who is young and stronger than ever. He has to find and destroy all the emperor's clones.

Re: Star Wars Ep 7 - 12/03/14 08:53 PM

People on Facebook SW groups are complaining about the trailer....er teaser. At this point we have no idea in what context these small snippets have been taken from.

And based on this teaser people are already condemning the movie and saying they won't go see it. Geez. I think it's because it isn't George Lucas Star Wars. It's still Star Wars!!!!

This is why I won't go see Exodus:Gods and Kings. I've read the book a few times, and I'm afraid Hollywood will ruin it.

Re: Star Wars Ep 7 - 12/03/14 10:24 PM

the problem with the SW books after Jedi was that numerous authors took the franchise in different directions

that may be one reason the new movies won't follow any books

I saw Kevin Smith's interview as well. Between that and the trailer, I'm stoked. If it ends up being a Jar Jar Binks annoys the world movie, I'm gonna be ticked smile

Re: Star Wars Ep 7 - 12/04/14 02:57 PM

Jurassic Park. Godfather. Shawshank, if short stories count.

Fight Club, according to the author.

Die Hard. Big Fish.

i think the issue is making movies of books that are already awesome and fully use the whole book structure effectively. you're kinda going to have to cut something great out. The better bets are books that have some good ideas but other flaws or limitations--especially if it's a visual thing that we've never seen before like Jurassic Park.

I kinda feel the same way about remakes. dont remake the classics--they were already done right. remake the interesting movies that didn't quite get it all together.

The new Sith light saber will kill you, or at least chop your own fingers off.

You may be right about books. Short stories though, definitely a few were better as movies: Total Recall (Rekall?), The Adjustment Bureau, A Scanner Darkly.
