It may have had some weigh to it if he still had some football skills. (the ability to throw the ball to at least the opposing players if he no longer could throw to his own)

as much weight as underinflated football?

If he likes sitting down so much, let him sit all year and play Blaine Gabbert.

Re: The Colin Kaepernick Poll - 08/29/16 06:14 PM

that will most likely happed due to talent.

I am thinking that this "protest" is due to an excuse for when he does not play or gets cut.

change your BOL registration state to La. or Il. and then you are allowed multiple votes...

Re: The Colin Kaepernick Poll - 08/29/16 06:31 PM

likely this was a staged incident by the NFL to try and get them some press...the NFL has become so boring, it makes Golf look exciting... honestly, preseason football? double yawn...

Re: The Colin Kaepernick Poll - 08/29/16 06:42 PM

Stephen A. Smith made a good point this morning, arguing that soldiers do not fight for us to do what they want us to, but rather for the rights we're given by the Constitution - including the right to sit at the National Anthem.

While I don't agree with Kaepernick's actions, I do agree with what Stephen A said. Just an interesting opinion I hadn't heard yet.

Stephen A. Smith made a good point this morning

I though it may have been his first but read on.

His employers should also have the right to fire him as he signed a contract that most likely has a provision in it prohibiting acts detrimental to the team. (such as starting as QB when his skills have faded to a point where they can not even trade him)

Re: The Colin Kaepernick Poll - 08/30/16 12:24 PM

Agreed, in theory, but since it is a written contract, unless there is a loophole for disrespect of the National Anthem, it's pretty much moot. Now, here's a thought...bench him for the rest of the season. No other team will touch him, his stats bottom out, and he fades into obscurity...albeit at the expense of the 49ers...

Re: The Colin Kaepernick Poll - 08/30/16 12:29 PM

as per signing a contract this is in most.

Re: The Colin Kaepernick Poll - 08/30/16 01:23 PM

While I heavily disagree with his choice, it is his choice to make. But I don't understand just how he is oppressed. He's an overpaid, talentless "one year wonder" making more money in a single year than I'll see in a lifetime.....yes, he's definitely oppressed. Defenses have figured out how to contain him and he's no longer a threat. On the plus side, he has made it easy for me....there's now someone out there I can root against more so than Tom Brady!

I just wonder what kind of backlash the Niners will get from this if/when they release him from the team? I imagine that social groups and likely the media as well will ignore statistics and salary which would support his release from any team. They will vilify the act and link it directly to his refusal to stand for the Anthem. And unless he would be willing to reduce his salary and consent to a back-up role I doubt any other team will have him...thus making him a martyr.

I can't help but wonder if that was part of it on his end. Did he do it just because he knew it'd be impossible for the Niners to release him now? Maybe I'm a cynic...

he did not state he was oppressed, but rather that people of color are. I wonder if any reporter bothered to ask his gardener, lawn guy, house guy, maintenance guy, etc, who may or may not be of color, how much extra he pays them versus their other clients. something tells me he pays the going rate, rather than extra...

I'm probably a cynic as it relates to this topic, but I think he's just assuming his normal position. Sitting on the bench. Probably had his Beats headphones on and didn't realize the national anthem was playing. Then he came up with an excuse not to look foolish.

True enough statement. But I can't help but feel this is more of a publicity stunt than anything. If it is a true "statement" that he feels people of color are oppressed, by default he would be including himself. Or am I overthinking it?

I like the spin one radio host put on this. Let him sit. He's not allowed to stand for our national anthem anymore. Prohibited.

Just kind of wondering that in the history of the US (or most other nations) which immigrant groups has not been oppressed at some point as we all were immigrants at some point (with the exception of the most oppressed group Native Americans)

Not a cynic but this is his way to try to get the 12.5 million he is "owed" for next year.

He certainly has the freedom to choose to remain sitting while The Star-Spangled Banner. Thanks to the sacrifice of our service members I also have the freedom to stand and shed a tear when I see the flag and hear the same song.

As a side note, I also have the freedom to hope he gets absolutely creamed by the defense of the other team and is out for the season. That should give him plenty of time to attend BLM rallies.

Re: The Colin Kaepernick Poll - 08/30/16 07:56 PM

I guess that is what makes America what it is, freedom of speech. I personally think he is being disrespectful to all who have served for his right to have that freedom of speech. But to me there is a much bigger issue here and it is the constant drumming by the media. So much of what we have seen lately has been fueled by the 24/7 in your face reporting. Remember (those of you that are old!) you got your half an hour Huntley Brinkley report, and you knew what was happening. I say enough already to these people who want their 15 minutes of fame, like this guy, he has already exceeded his time limit!!

Well ... maybe the Vikings will pick him up ... Bridgewater blew out his knee in non-contact practice. Plus this kind of protest would fit in great in Minneapolis.

Yeah, Romo and Bridgewater hurt, Brady out for four games. Fantasy drafts are going to have slim pickings for QBs this year.

Also read, and saw a picture of him wearing socks showing pigs in police uniforms, which must be ok with the NFL, even though the Cowboys player were not allowed to wear anything to honor the five cops murdered in Texas.

I'll probably keep an eye on the Cardinals, but none of those others! Hoping the Colts can do something this year that even resembles protecting Luck. Now that Manning retired I can watch football with a lot less stress - I never liked seeing that guy lose.

All of the above...

Not on a par with the salute in the 1968 Olympics, but I'm pretty sure that someone would have had to explain the symbolism to him.

His jersey sales have boomed, but apparently some people are buying them so they can burn them. Perhaps they don't understand.

Interesting....I've learned something new today.

Apparently players do no receive any direct monetary compensation, as it's all controlled by the Players' Union (unless the player enters into an individual agreement). So while that voids my statement that he's hurting all the way to the bank, I'm still not paying that much money on a jersey just to take it home and burn it.
