Wedding Shower - 02/11/19 04:13 PM

Does anyone know of a good way to send wedding shower invitations electronically rather than paper invitations snail mailed? A website or an ap?

I have never had to do this so I am ignorant.

Or is it still best and more socially acceptable to snail mail invites?

It depends on your audience, I think. Older folks typically want mail...younger ones typically expect electronic delivery. I've only seen it done through FB events.

Re: Wedding Shower - 02/11/19 04:53 PM

I have already been on FB and then dumped it.
People tell me why did you not come to this event or that event and I am like you never invited me and they are like I sent your an invite on FB and I say I do not log into that any more.
Guess I am not worth a real invite.

Re: Wedding Shower - 02/11/19 05:01 PM

I agree with Joker. It depends on your general audience. Anyone under the age of 30 usually prefers electronic delivery of an invite. If you are the one planning and keeping up with RSVPs, you can stay on top of anyone who doesn't respond, people like Wolfy smile

We used The Knot wedding website last year for our wedding RSVPs last year free of charge. Not sure if there is a similar product/tool for showers. If not, Facebook is more than reasonable. Anyone who is not on Facebook or doesn't RSVP can be called. The days of mail are all but gone. The only things I get in the mail anymore are actual wedding invites and those responses are all expected to be submitted/RSVP'ed electronically.

invitations should always be sent by mail...because it is the right thing to do.

FWIW, I agree with Happy. If someone wants my attendance, they're best of mailing me something versus a FB invite or an e-mail that requires me to remember it and reply electronically.

I agree with both of the above.

I can see postal mailed invitations for the wedding, but for the shower - that's pretty much just a party. I used evite.com for the last party I hosted which was a Christmas party for a group at church. It worked very well. Good luck.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. ANYONE my daughter might invite will be quite in tune with a Facebook or other electronic invitation. I don't think she has any friends who aren't facebookers.

Re: Wedding Shower - 02/12/19 05:19 PM

swiggles, I hear ya. My own opinion, I get FB invites all of the time, daily, for various things. I look quick and most of the time forget to go look again. Then FB will give that annoying red circle telling me not to forget to respond. And I forget again. I just think something like a shower, should be mailed. Just my two cents.

Re: Wedding Shower - 02/12/19 05:20 PM

I plan my kids birthday party that way, but I would never a wedding/baby shower.

Re: Wedding Shower - 02/12/19 05:23 PM

Guess I will leave it up to my daughter. They are her friends. I might send paper invites to my friends who know my daughter since these would be "older" folks. LOL

....just because I like to tell....so read if you want to......

My daughter is 35 and had a liver transplant about this time last year....cirrhosis due to alcoholism. She is now healthy, sober, happy and testifying on social media to all who will read..... about the dangers of alcoholism, and giving glory to God that a liver became available just as she was at death's door. She, through a transplant intermediary, has connected with the family of the person whose gift of life is inside her body...a person who died tragically. Then God sent.....I am telling you!.....the perfect man, through happenstance. She has had a history of picking the wrong guys and not being able to maintain a relationship. Now....a match made in Heaven....no doubt about it. I am beyond overjoyed.

fortunately for those who choose to get married, MsGilmore does the wedding gift purchasing...she normally purchases some type of serving platter that costs way more than i'd ever spend, done by a local artisan that does many one-off creations...

Congrats to your daughter and you.
Evite is my choice and I am closer to retirement than anyone else here, 'cept Pale.
I've used it for all kinds of invites. They are emailed, not FB. You chose an actual invite and complete it as you like. The invitee has the opportunity to respond and put the date on their calendar. I really think they're the best way to go. Even my 92 yr old mother can open her email and respond easily.

i hear that frequently, until they open it and then find they are using it frequently...because honestly, who really thinks they need a serving platter until they have one, and then it is always used...

Re: Wedding Shower - 02/13/19 07:57 PM

Why would you need a serving platter when pizza comes in one?

I am so weird that I take the pizza out of the box and put it on a plate (NOT a paper or plastic plate).....my dishes.... and then eat it with a metal fork.

You were good until you got to the fork. Who eats pizza with a fork??!!! Unless it's deep dish, of course.

Congrats. Your story was very touching! How over the moon you must be to see her happy. (something in my eye). Now, on to pizza crusts drizzled in OO and sprinkled with garlic salt - add a little bruschetta and you've got a winner there!
