End of year is coming - who is retiring?

End of year is coming - who is retiring? - 12/13/21 01:31 PM

Seen a number of posts about retirements coming up, anyone else get to be Johnny Paycheck for their job by the end of the year? Highly jealous of you all, i have many years left before i can take the never-ending weekend.

My last day is Wednesday - and oddly enough I don't feel anxious at all about it. Hopefully my husband and I don't get on each others nerves too much. I have a lot of 'projects' on my to do list.

Congrats Skittles!

Unfortunately Happy and I are in the same boat. I have at least 10 years before everyday is a weekend.

Congrats Skittles. Sadly I have a long way to go myself. I am always interested in what people do when they retire. Are the projects actually fun/things you want to do? Or is it "work" related?

Ask me this question in about 18 months if the plan stays on track!!!

Same here - 18 to 24 months - unless I hit the lottery, or my golf game dramatically improves smile

I was going to use the lottery as my retirement plan, but decided that's a pretty poor plan....seeing as I've never even bought a lottery ticket. Guess I'll just slug out the next 15 years or so.

Thank you all so much. I've enjoyed my 40+ years in banking, but time for me to let someone else have all the glory. Ha!

Congrats skittles and Olde Tyme!

soccer and Randy, we should plan a big party for the three of us. Working remotely has given hubs and me time to acclimate to being in the same space 24/7. Whereas he's happy to fish, golf or sit and read, I'm looking forward to volunteering, trying my hand at some different art forms and traveling to see exhibits. He'll travel with me as long as there's a golf course or a good fishing spot nearby. wink

I can't wait, and to know that Randy will at least be around until I go is a relief. I'm always happy when he responds to my questions. smile

I'm done at the end of this year. And our bank "announcement" board shows that I have quite a bit of company! Maybe it's just the demographics of this company?

Re: End of year is coming - who is retiring? - 12/15/21 07:33 PM

Congrats DEL! It could be the demographics but it could also be people getting while the getting is good.

Re: End of year is coming - who is retiring? - 12/16/21 04:16 PM

we have had a good number that have opted to retire from the bank and go work for 3rd party contractors doing the exact same thing they do for us, only in a contract environment at a higher salary and most working 100% remote

After 32 years in the same seat with 4 different banks, I am riding off into the sunset on 12/31. I have enjoyed this site and its predecessor. I will look back fondly on the wild times in the cooler before we all got woke.

Good lord Pale - another long-time poster will be gone. Thanks for all of your input over the years and glad we got to get together in-person a time or too. I wish you the very best in your retirement years. If you ever get to Galveston - give me a call and we can grab a bite to eat or something.

Kinda like society in general.

Re: End of year is coming - who is retiring? - 05/12/23 03:18 PM

While i agree that people are too easily offended these days, part of the problem is that so many people today can't voice an opinion without being obnoxious about it, or by coming right out of the box demeaning anyone who might dare to disagree.

Re: End of year is coming - who is retiring? - 05/12/23 03:24 PM

The era of that it was OK to have opposing opinions is definitely over. It is now the "My way, or the Highway" mentality that leaves no room for calm and logical discussions, which OMG, might actually lead to some sort of possible compromise. Now, if you compromise, you are weak.

You missed the cheesy potatoes, Happy.

Still not retiring. Remote work makes it easier and safer to continue and the money helps fund our travels. I won't keep it up forever but for now....
