Low rise jeans or mid drift tops on anyone whose stomach spills out over the waist band. ALSO- any man that with a beer belly who wears his pants BELOW their stomach instead of at the AROUND their stomach should be shot on sight.

The first thing that came to mind was "The Mullet", but if those went away, I wouldn't be able to laugh about it with my brother! We even have an aunt that prefers to go with the "business on top, party in the back" look!

Carefull what you wish for. Our great Legislators are currently debating a law against low rise jeans. See article. It was even featured on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show". I guess all of our state's problems are now solved and we have to invent new problems. I'm so ashamed!

Dreadlocks can be a religious thing so we can't take them away from everyone.

What we can take would be bellie shirts. If we could rely on girls with decent bellies to wear them we'd be fine, but I saw someones grandmother in one last week and it was ummm well not ummm pretty Oh and how about those stupid furry boots people are wearing in Hollywood. We don't wear the dang things (Ugg boots) in Alaska for gads sake. You definately don't need them in California!

I get plenty of shocks when trying to buy clothes for my girls (ages 6, 7, and 8.) What further complicates the situation for me is that my girls are all very tall, so they fit into sizes that their peers won't fit into for another 2 years.

Jac,

I guess I'm lucky. My 8 year old is so girly. She hates jeans and shirts and just love dresses. Any kind of dress. But at the same time some of her class mates are wearing belly shirts. In my opinion that is just too young for those types of shirts.

What is the appropriate age for young girls to start wearing provocative clothing? It seems the fashion designers want them to start at about age 4.

Who buys the clothes? How many of these young girls have the funds to purchase these disgraceful outfits on their own? If parents refused to buy them, the designers would soon get the message, but then again, look at the parents. A lot of them dress like street walkers, so what can we expect the kids to want to wear?

I HATE it when women wear dark hosiery and light shoes or vice versa. Also any clothes that are stained, torn or ill fitting.

Why do some men wear dress shirts, especially white shirts, without an undershirt? I wouldn't mind so much if the men that did this had firm chests and six pack abs BUT NOOOOOO... IT's always the guy with man breast and a pony keg!!
Posted By: hobot

Re: What fashion objects/styles should be outlawed? - 05/26/04 06:22 PM

How about the women's low slung pants that show the top of their thong underwear in both the front and back? In the back, you can tell that they are wearing thongs b/c you can see the skin below the elastic part of the thong (the pants are not necessarily transparent -- although that happens too!). Their shirts are so short they don't even have to move to see this. I don't care how thin/cute/well-built the woman/girl is, this is distasteful in public and borders on pornographic in some cases. I recently saw a mother/daughter (about 7) dressed very similarly at the daughter's school. Lovely....

My 8 year old prefers jeans and tees to all else, which isn't a bad thing IMHO, becasue jeans and tees actually do what clothes are supposed to do- cover the body. My other girls prefer more trendy,(but still modest) styles.

Where I run into a problem is in trying to find appropriate clothes. It seems every year, more and more of the outfits on the racks go beyond the limits of good taste, and it takes longer than it should to find the right clothes.

By the way, does anyone else smell hypocrisy?

Quote:

CONCORD, Mass. (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry took a spill from his bicycle after hitting a patch of sand during a ride Sunday afternoon, but he was uninjured, campaign officials said.
-
Kerry was riding south on a two-lane road at about 1:00 p.m. in the direction of Walden Pond State Reservation in Concord, a quiet, suburban town about 18 miles northwest of Boston.
-
He was approaching a stop light at the intersection with Route 2 and was slowing down when he veered left into the oncoming lane and fell, according to an Associated Press reporter who witnessed him fall. Secret Service agents and local police immediately stopped traffic while Kerry and a handful of bicycling companions moved to the shoulder.
-
"He's fine. They took the bike into the bike shop, and he went home," said Kerry campaign adviser Michael Meehan.

And yet:

Quote:

(WONKETTE) - When told of Bush's bike accident, Kerry reportedly said, "Did the training wheels fall off?"

(Emphasis mine.) At least Bush finished his ride.

I don't know if this is normal beacuse I only have 1 child but I've even had problems with my 2-year-old's clothes because they are cut so low in the waist. The pants only cover half of the diaper in the back. It only happens with certain pants and I don't realize it until I get them home.

I would have to agree about the "grunge look." I found it so depressing when it was in style......hated those flannels. Being from the UP of Michigan, I saw enough of them as it was.

I don't know if I'm the lame one, but high heels (dress shoes)with jeans drives me nuts. It's not so bad if they're csual or maybe boots.

When a man is taken to jail, they customarily require him to remove his belt and his shoelaces. That is to prevent him from using them for a suicide attempt or to attack someone else. As a result, his pants become low riders, and the shoes are floppy. Because of the large percentage of urban youths who have spent time in jail, this "look" became somewhat chic as a badge of something (not sure exactly what). The look then became copied by others, and we now have a fashion trend.

Pretty sad that many are showing crack because they were doing crack.

Re: What fashion objects/styles should be outlawed - 05/27/04 05:39 PM

Re: What fashion objects/styles should be outlawed - 05/27/04 05:52 PM

I love toe-rings!! I think they are really cute. My mom and grandma started wearing them on a trip they took to Mexico. Now, all of the women in our family wear them. They are kind of annoying at first, but once you get used to it, it's not that bad.

Now, as for the baggy pants....my son tries to do that because he's seen his uncle wear them like that. I am always on him to "pull his pants up". His response, "Mom, I look like a big dork when I pull them up". I think I'd rather have him look "look like a dork" than be mistaken for some punk wannabe.

Unless your young daughter is aspiring to be a stripper, what is she doing wearing skimpy clothing in public? Words like "Juicy," "Sexy" and "Slut" have no place on clothes worn by any child under the age of 18. Ditto the "Daisy Duke" shorts and the braless tank top look that is sweeping the malls from coast to coast. I don't get it, really. Where are the parents of these kids?

They are out there buying these clothes for these kids. If they would stop buying them, the stores would stop selling them. In case you haven't heard, the newest thing for boys is extremely low-rise jeans. Now try and wear them with the crotch at the knees and what do you have?

It's not always on purpose. Some of us just don't have very wide shoulders and the straps tend to slide off no matter what we do. Maybe I just need to borrow some duct tape from Dawnie...

(Now the black bra under a white shirt - of any kind, even if the straps aren't showing... that's just lame.)

Re: What fashion objects/styles should be outlawed? - 06/06/19 09:47 PM

I've seen so many things at the airport these last couple of days that should be banned !
1. Men's naked butts because they have the lowriders and either no undies or very loosely fitting undies that ride down with the pants. Trust me - every man's butt is not something that the rest of us should be subjected to!
2. girls who might as well walk thru the airport naked - shirts so sheer with no bra, so many holes in their jeans they might as well not wear any, short shorts so short and thin you can tell there is nothing underneath, shirts so low cut it's amazing that anything can stay in and they don't always remain contained.....
3. clothing so tight fitting they leave absolutely nothing to the imagination - either men or women.
4. ye old socks with sandals - especially white socks. just say no. if your feet are cold - wear appropriate shoes.

The super-tight fitted suits (with or without a bow-tie), pants short enough to see their socks and skinny, shiny shoes that seems to be popular with younger men right now. Every time I see one it makes me think of Pee-Wee Herman.
