whoa, whoa, whoa! While I appreciate the sentiment Max, I couldn’t handle the responsibility.

I’m a simple man, all I need is a recliner, a remote, some pork rinds, some cheese, some nuts some deviled eggs, some jerky and some cheap beer.

That should cover the snack before lunch.

My vote is for Flawless, it's always for Flawless no matter what I'm voting for.

You're the guy that said he wasn't up to anything in the national archives, too, right?

Let's go to the 9/11 Commission Report:

(page 141)
Quote:
By late June [1999], U.S. and other intelligence services had concluded that al-Qaeda was in pre-attack mode, perhaps again involving Abu Hafs the Mauritanian. On June 25, at Clarke's request, Berger convened the Small Group in his office to discuss the alert, Bin Ladin's WMD programs, and his location.

"Should we pre-empt by attacking UBL facilities?" Clarke urged Berger to ask his colleagues.

In his handwritten notes on the meeting paper, Berger jotted down the presence of 7 to 11 families in the Tarnak Farms facility, which could mean 60-65 casualties. Berger noted the possible "slight impact" on Bin Ladin and added, "if he responds, we're blamed." The NSC staff raised the option of waiting until after a terrorist attack, and then retaliating, including possible strikes on the Taliban. But Clarke observed that Bin Ladin would probably empty his camps after an attack.

The military route seemed to have reached a dead end. In December 1999, Clarke urged Berger to ask the principals to ask themselves: "Why have there been no real options lately for direct US military action?" There are no notes recording whether the question was discussed or, if it was,how it was answered. [editor's note: gee, I wonder where those could have gone...]

(page 176)
Quote:
[Richard Clarke] proposed to Berger that a strike be made during the last week of 1999 against al Qaeda camps in Afghanistan - a proposal not adopted. Footnote: In the margin next to Clarke's suggestion to attack al Qaeda facilities in the week before January 1, 2000, Berger wrote "no."

Re: BOLers For President - 01/26/07 12:20 AM

yeah, but it's bush's fault...we need to get out of iraq...yeah, yeah
Posted By: Non Ron anon

Re: BOLers For President - 01/26/07 02:37 AM

So your "proof" that he "wouldn't kill Osama" is that he wouldn't authorize an attack on a camp that would have only a slight impact on bin Laden????? How does that relate to "killing" him? And what does it have to do with your ridiculous statement about it involving due process?

And if he wouldn't kill Osama, how do you explain the fact that they DID try to kill him???? Let's go to the 9/11 Commission report:

"Later on August 20, Navy vessels in the Arabian Sea fired their cruise missiles. Though most of them hit their intended targets, neither bin Laden nor any other terrorist leader was killed. Berger told us that an after-action review by Director Tenet concluded that the strikes had killed 20-30 people in the camps but probably missed bin Laden by a few hours." [page 117]

Why? I'll be honest...I couldn't find a political/government job in DC from graduation in May 2006 to my lease expired in August 2006. Because of the lack of a decent job, and the high cost of living in the DC area, I moved home to NJ. I needed a job here. I just happened to have a cousin who is on the Board of Directors of a Community Bank here in NJ, and an Uncle who is Vice Chairman of the same Board. They knew I needed a job, so they put in a call. I was going to start in customer service, but they decided to test me as a Management Trainee (learn everything...rotate from position to position), but it looks like their settling me into the CRA/HMDA field.

Believe me, I want to go back to DC ASAP. However, without a Masters or a Law Degree, it is hard to find a good government/political job (or...as in any case...unless you know someone). So, while I decide if I want a Masters or a Law Degree, I'm going to need a place to live and pay the bills...so...nice little banking job through nepotism it is for now...

Although as DQ said...my father wants to teach me the value of finance and economic and so on. I don't disagree with the value involved, but he really wanted me to take this job more then I did.

NRA...he is taking a jab at me for something I said in another thread. I said that, ideally, I would prefer to capture UBL alive, put him on trial, and watch him be punished for his crimes.

I, personally, have a problem with killing a criminal without due process, even though he is a terrorist. I believe in due process. HAVING SAID THAT, if the only option to get him was through an air raid...well...then...of course you have to do it...I was just stating what I'd ideally like to see happen.

Originally Posted By: Non Ron anon

As NP admits, I'm making a point about his prior post expressing concern for Usama's due process rights. I included a bit (but not much) hyperbole regarding Mr. Berger's reluctance to go after Usama. I think I demostrated that reluctance pretty well. Yes, the Clinton administration did authorize attacks on Al Qaeda, immediately following the embassy bombings. As you see when Clarke is later recommending action, the administration is unwilling to do so, even suggesting that they wait until after another terrorist attack before authorizing further action against UBL.

Now, as far as most politicians go, this was par for the course pre-9/11. What, to me, is inexcusable is the failure to learn the lessons of 9/11.
