There's a Dirty Jobs episode that shows in great depth how they harvest these Geoducks!

I have not tried it, but I certainly would. Compared to some of the strange delicacies that I have tried, that one is not so bad. It's just a big clam, a really, really big clam that doesn't fit in his shell.

Oh, that's a geoduck (pronounced gooey-duck). I remember being repulsed by them when I lived in Western Washington. They can live well over 130 years.

Mike Rowe from Dirty Jobs recently aired an episode about working on a geoduck farm in Washington. He covered it all, from geoduck reproduction, to harvesting the buggers out of 3 foot-deep mud, to cookin' them up and trying a taste. Throughout, there was plenty of double-entendre going on!

Oops, Zorg beat me to it! I will add, however, that in the show, when Mike pulled them out of the cold mud, they weren't nearly so, um, limp, as the one in the picture.

This is what started the whole looking it up on internet and bringin it to BOL.

I saw that same show. I was trying to explain to someone what it was and just did a google search and found it. The one shown in this thread is way longer than the ones I remember on the show.

I just added it to my list of things never heard of or seen before. But then again, I live in Texas where it is just dirt and trees, dirt and trees,...........

I have never seen such a thing or heard of it and if I saw it I sure wouldn't touch it or pick it up and I'd have to be taking my last breath with the only thing to save me being eating that thing and then I still think I'd rather die. EEEWWW....

have any of you heard of/tried balut(sp)? it's a filipino delicacy - an underdeveloped chicken embryo, still in the shell, still in raw slime, slightly recognizable. you basically swallow it quickly as possible, before you realize what you're doing. we had a "balut club" in high school - admittance was eating one.

I read about that. Supposedly they found a way to inject caffeine (about two coffee cups' worth) into pastries and/or bagels. They're trying to market the idea to several big names, including Starbucks and Krispy Kreme.

I prefer a hallucinogenic in my donuts.
