Pet Peeves

What are your pet peeves? Mine are:

People that drive slow (even though now I am one of them because of my ticket)

People clipping their nails at work

People that want to prove you wrong to make themselves look better

People that drive slow.
Superficial people.
Arrogant people who don't know facts but make arguments anyway.

People who find it necessary to talk constantly. Like, if they stop talking for half an hour they'll suffocate.

People

Any other drivers (they are all idiots)

People who fail to use common sense (although I do this sometimes!)

People who run meetings and fail to stick to an agenda

People who ask too many questions

People who don't like me (because everyone should!) J/K

People with no sense of humor.

Really, I could go on...

people that are always in such a hurry when they drive

People like me. Opposites attract. Put people like me in a place, and I wanna go on a spree.

People that wont shutup in meetings - the ones that talk to hear themselves talk.

People that ask too many questions in meetings

People who look off when you're talking to them like they are bored with the conversation.

Sales clerks who are to busy laughing and talking to wait on you, then screw up by leaving one of the roundie alarm go offer on.

Sales clerks who will not leave you alone when you are shopping, and you just want to look.

Oh man. So many. Two of my biggest are when a couple goes out to a restaurant and the two sit on the same side of the booth. That annoys the [censored] out of me. Also, when people where the ear piece for the cell phones and look like they are talking to themselves.

It really bothers me when people are fake. There are a few people like that here at work and I avoid them at all costs.

People who can't admit when they are wrong! We're human and we all make mistakes, so just fess up and move on.

Lately every moron in the freeway has been talking on their cell phone instead of actually driving their car and I'm sick of having to swirve to avoid them. Seriously, if you can't handle both, then pick one!

Public Restrooms that are completely nasty and I have no other choices


People who are not from here and try to make things like the place they are from
People that think because I am from the south and have an accent that I am stupid
People.............yep just people

People who won't move out of the way. You say excuse me and they look at you like you are mental.

People who leave the darn grocery cart in the middle of the parking lot.

People who litter.

People who think they are better than anyone else.

People who can't mind their own business.

Habitual liars.

Story toppers.

Narrow mindedness.

Bad tippers.

When parents don't discipline their children.

Thieves (who do they think they are that they get stuff for free when the rest of us have to work for it?)

When I sneeze and nobody sense 'Bless You' or 'Gazunheit(sp)'.

When you make plans with a couple that has a child and they assume it's okay to bring the child with to a dinner at a nice restaurant without asking you.

When people think religious freedom means that they get to shove their religion down your throat but you aren't allowed to say anything back because you're the supposed 'majority'.

Animal abuse in any form.

People that don't merge into a single lane when there are signs telling you to do so because of upcoming road construction, and then they expect to budge into line ahead of you (I will NEVER allow them in. EVER.)

When people have the means to support a charitable cause monetarily and their greed keeps them from doing so.

When people write posts that are WAY TOO LONG in the threads...:)

Women who put their makeup on while driving!

Drivers who have forgotten that when your vehicle is in the intersection, you are supposed to MOVE and clear the intersection when the light turns red, not sit there partially in the way until the next light.

Networks cancelling good shows because they schedule them poorly, don't promote them, and then kill them because they didn't draw enough viewers.

Humidity!

"Nucular" vs. "Nuclear." Especially coming out of the mouth of our nuclear engineer president (Carter) and the current one (Bush), who is a graduate of Yale and Harvard.

One of my best friends is like this and it absolutely drives me insane.

Indefinately (incorrect) vs indefinitely (correct)...seriously that drives me crazy.

The community reinvestment act and the home mortgage disclosure act...

working for a living
hot, humid weather
rude drivers (slow or fast)

When you hold the door for someone and they don't say "thanks"; YOU ARE WELCOME!, I usually say, in a very loud voice.

got to add Reg E to that - I mean, any other business would have the right to refuse a refund based on customer neglect (AKA stupidity)

Not being able to let out a phart when I need too.

Store employees who don't say thank you after you have made a purchase.

Finishing lunch and still being hungry.

Stupid people who try to act like they are not stupid.

Being in a meeting and having the person leading the meeting READ their hand-outs to you. (Um, I know how to read, thank you. Could you summarize and move on????)

When a company calls and then has the nerve to put you on hold.

Ooooh I hate when computers call me and tell me to please hold!

OH! And when people walk in front of you when you are looking at something in a store, and they don't say "Excuse me".

It's happened every day this week, I hate it!!! I just pick up and hang up as soon as the recording starts.

People who end every other sentence with "you know what I mean?" or "you know?" or "you know what I'm saying?"...

Close talkers.
Low talkers.

I can't stand close talkers! I just want to punch them in the face.

My brother mumbles and turns away from you when he talks!

DQ, I heard Ellen DeGeneres talk about this once (it's one of her pet peeves, also) and she says, "You're welcome, Your Highness. I'm sorry I didn't have any rose petals to spread in your pathway." It probably doesn't sound too funny when you read it, but it was hillarious when she was telling it.

Um, Mary, they are called POWER SURGES, not hot flashes. Or you can just tell people you are on a mini tropical vacation by yourself and you will be back soon.

I hate that, too. I usually say "Excuse You" when that happens. I get some pretty ugly looks or just get ignored when I do that.

I'll have to remember that one! I have my son in the habit of saying "excuse me" now, and when someone else doesn't say it to us, he says "mom, she/he didn't say excuse me!". Out of the mouths of babes!

MaryRink - I've started taking Effexor for my hot flashes (or power surges) and it works wonderfully. There are a couple of side effects that I've experienced (yawning, dizziness), but the benefits still outweigh the bad.

People who ask you a question and then interrupt you 0.4 seconds into your answer because they know what you are going to say and they know it is wrong.

Every other car on the road. It's like George Carlin says, "Everyone driving slower than you is an idiot and everyone driving faster than you is a maniac."

People that speed up when you try to pass them.

Loan officers that question everything you say.

OOH! I confess: I speed up when someone has been riding on my bumper and then starts to pass!

I think this may be a midwest thing...

When people say 'borrow' instead of 'loan' or 'lend'.

For example:
I borrowed that book to my friend so that they could learn to speak correctly.

People who presume to think they know what I'm thinking when they don't know me well enough to read me correctly. (and they're not willing to take the time to learn)

I hate when people add an R to words that dont have an R at the end.

Such as "idear" for idea

I think that is forgivable. Riding on ones bumper is never acceptable and also a pet peeve of mine. When I look in my rearview mirror and only see the top of your car...you are too close!!!

Thank You! as I bow my head in shame because I could cause someone to get hurt, mainly me!

People (especially co-workers) who need to put you down to feel good about themselves.

No kidding, the last time I set a customer on fire... Um.. actually do to the gag order I can't really talk about it, but I'm sure you get the idea...things didn't really go well...

Along the lines of story toppers are people who embellish a story over time so what began as really not much of a story at all has blossomed into the greatest story ever told.

I hate when someone rides your bumper. My husband will brake to try to get the message through to them that they're too close, but I worry about them rear ending us. I go slower, and if they don't get the message, even s-l-o-w-e-r. They will usually back off.

also,i hate people that walk around with blue tooths as if they are SO important that they must be able to field a vital phone call at a moment's notice. save it for the car, clown!

I didn't read the whole thread, so I don't know if this was already posted.

I used to have a crystal ball (a real one) on my desk for comments such as that. That one makes me crazy!!! I also respond with "I'm sorry, I failed mind reading in college. So I can't help you."

My problem is when they call and say, "Hi, call me" and don't leave their name. I cannot distinguish voices well as it is, but I know several people that sound very similar. When I do answer the call, and they say, "Hi" I will say, "Hi, who is this?" You would think after twenty seven years of my asking who is calling that they would get the idea, oh maybe I'd better identify myself? I always preface my call with "Hi, it's Nancy..." and continue why I called.

Answer: yes there is a limit...

I hate when you order through the drive-thru and they had you your drink that is overflowing and makes a mess.

But, I also hate it when they don't give you enough. I know I hardly finish my drink but just what if I happened to be thirsty today.

Our maintenance man made me think of one that bugs the [censored] out of me (no pun intended)...

People who think it's appropriate to talk to you while you are standing at the urinal or in the bathroom stall.

Co-workers that come into the bathroom to tell you a customer is waiting on ya. Just let me pee, I'll be out quickly I promise. Jeez!

I got mine on eBay. you can get them pretty cheap there. and they weigh a TON!!!!

Word of advice though - if you get one, people will constantly be stopping to comment, play with it, etc and if you don't like to be bugged, you will end up hating it. that's what happened to me.

My pet peeve right now is that dumb commercial for "The Simple Life" where they are cutting a desk in half and they are like "Oh my God, we are going to be in so much trouble", and you can tell they are "acting", only it's just so pathetic if you were not watching the screen you would swear that it was someone from a remedial reading class reading straight off of a paper! Who even watches that show anymore?

Lenders who KNOW they know everything.

Here is my pet peeve-the auditor responsible to review my self assessment just left my office-she questioned how I came up with the sample size for my assessment (guess she didn't read my scope) and then asked how many of those she should review for her audit......UH hello-you are the auditor...That is your friggin job-I already did mine....

People that throw their cigarette butts on the ground. It is bad enough to have to walk thru all of their smoke when leaving or coming into the building but it really irks me that the ground looks like a butt farm.

Pet Peeve: Restaurant servers who take a year and a day to bring you the bill, then a year and a day to retrieve it with your debit card.

People that leave voice mail like "Call me, I have a question". If they would leave a full message you could do the research and send an email or should you then get their voice mail you could leave them the answer.

Along the same vein, I have given up trying to keep the pup from peeing on the grass out back, but I try very hard to keep the front yard green. When we take her for a walk, we go out back to let her do her business first-95% of the time, she waits til she is in the front!! UGH....

Pet peeve: places that are not considerate of smokers and do not provide an ashtray for them to use.

People who have been in banking for years longer than I have and call ask me a stupid question about what to do when a teller is out of balance. HELLO, there are procedures written for that!

Also those same people who cannot use a worksheet that has been developed for them without deleting the formulas that are in the worksheet.

Then there are those people who don't like from the time you begin your employment at the bank and think that you don't need an assistant because they don't think they you work.

As you can tell it is a Wonderful Day in the Neighborhood!!

My pet peeve is people who don't speak correctly. If this is your first language, learn it!!! For example,

- supposably for supposedly
- brang instead of brought
- when someone says something like: I don't care whether or not they do it or not. (Really?)
- I couldn't care less. (Well, yes, you probably could...)

and the song No Rain by Blind Mellon when they say "...my cheating stagedy..." instead of strategy. That bugs me every single time I hear it.

Along that same vein, saying "tooken" instead of "taken", "ax" instead of "ask"...

Saying "you know what I mean" after every other word...

Ok, some of us are not able to pronounce "ask" and it ends up sounding like "ax"!!!

Hence, why I rephase whatever I have to so I do not have to say the "ask".

You must be talking to someone who works for the Department of Redundancy Department.

This is interesting to me BBS, and I'm not picking on you. Do you have the same trouble with "mask" and "task" etc? I wonder why it would cause a challenge.

I believe this has to do with learning language as a baby, while the vocal chords are still soft and pliable, and then once they harden, it is nearly impossible to change the pronounciation.

People who let their children scream or fuss loudly at a restaurant. Yes, I know this happens and I have a son, but if he did that we took him out of the dining room. Now it seems like parents think everyone enjoys their children. My husband and I would just like a quiet dinner at times.

Sorry - off of my soapbox now.

Especially in a nice restaurant. Take your kid outside until they settle down. Most of the time our daughter is excellent, but every once in a while we have to take her out of the dining room until she calms down. That is when we can afford to go out!

Actually, I believe that is the correct way to say it.

If you said, "...I could care less," that means you do care.

If you said, "...I could not care less," that means that you do not care at all.

Right?

I agree about the kids, I also get annoyed when people don't watch their kids (anywhere really) and let them scream, run around, and get in people's way. It is very inconsiderate.

No, PR should not speak for me. Any word that ends in 'sk' for me ends up sounding like 'x'. My problem is that the little piece of skin under my tongue is larger than it should be, and thus does not give my tongue the wiggle room so to speak for 'sk' sounds. I cannot even stick my tongue out!

My younger brothers all had thier's snipped back a bit when they were younger and it solved the problem for them (they can also stick out their tongues like Gene Simmons too)...by the time that was happening, I was 13ish, and had already learned how to work around it, by either talking slower or using other words if I could, for 'sk' words.

okay BBS. I get it. thank you for explaining it for me. I really never understood.

I'm not sure how it would be pronounced in english, but in spanish it called the "frenillo" (the ll sounds like a y). I had the same problem as a child and it was snipped. As did my daughter. I also found that I had trouble properly pronouncing my R's when speaking spanish.

Anytime it's not a life or death kind of thing...but I know I wouldn't be able to speak as properly as I do today had I not had the procedure done. That's why it was a no brainer when I decided to have it done for my daughter.

Yes, my R's were also a stuggle for me in Spanish too....really had to focus on those.

My BF had this problem as a child, they cut it as well, but his tongue reminds me of a turtles sometimes, and (please don't be upset if you ever read this) he isn't the best kisser either, it's something with the movement

This runs in my family as well. My son had his snipped when he was three. It didnt affect his speech, it was actually recommended by the dentist! He couldnt move his tongue around enough to clean his teeth etc....
They put him to sleep for it but it was a quick and easy procedure.

When people use the incorrect phrase "Make me do this" when they mean to say "Let me do this".

When you are in a conversation with someone and somebody else "hovers" around making you feel like you need to stop what you are doing and ask them what they want.

When someone has a drifting eye, so that when they are standing right in front of you talking with you, one of the eyes is off to the side checking out what's happening down the block.

Ewwww... creepy. I knew a customer once who did that; he was a shrink... I think if he was my therapist, I would have really freaked out...

Yeah, I hate that too. But, for us men unfortunately, once we hit our 30's, hair starts growing from everywhere, except from where we want it too of course.

ladies who find it necessary to walk around nikkid in the company gym locker room... COME ON HERE! don't they realize the next time i give a presentation, and try to calm my jitters by 'picturing my audience nikkid,' that i'm going to need to close my eyes, curl up in the corner and rock??

There is a time and a place for being/getting nikkid - in the gym at work is not one of them. YUCK!!!!

While on a subway train, someone raises there arms to hold the hand rail n a 90 degree day, and their underarm alarm went off hours ago. (And it is quite crowded on the train).

I confess: About 1/2 hour ago, they were taking a tree down by our parking lot and the rope balancing it snapped, the tree fell and it missed my truck by 4 feet. It did hit the company car, though, smashed it right through the roof.

I feel the same way in the winter when people say "ITS SNOWING!" Um....hello, you live in New England and it's December!!!

It's been so long that we've had a good rain (except for this past Saturday) that I'm afraid that I'd be one of those people.

I do watch rain and snow out the window, but only because I am extrememly bored in my job and it breaks up my day! I sit and wonder...If I jumped from this window....

Eek! I'm a rain-starer. However, the last time it rained here was May 1. But even that was only 0.02 inches (and not in Central Phx, so I missed it!). But, it was the first measurable rain in May in 5 years, so that's a step up.

When smokers have that nasty phlem laugh and it sounds like they are wheezing. I was a smoker for 10 years and I dont have that laugh...it is really annoying to me.

I don't think people should be permitted to blow their nose anywhere near food...or where I'm eating. If I have food in my mouth...or ttrying to decide which food I want to put there, no one should be snorking.
