Re: AFI: 100 years, 100 movies - 07/02/07 05:29 PM

ugh. what are the criteria for choosing???

citizen kane = boring!!
gwtw = narcissistic whiny needy chick looking for love.

i'm sure that offended some, and i'm sorry, so i won't go on.

Re: AFI: 100 years, 100 movies - 07/02/07 05:46 PM

Citizen Kane is an awesome movie. Plus it was cutting edge at the time. Just because a movie is old, doesn't mean it's not good. Love the Godfather and Raging Bull in the top 5. Goodfellas is a little low for me.

Re: AFI: 100 years, 100 movies - 07/02/07 05:50 PM

I'm not certain the criteria, but I thought some on the list were sleepers. I was happy to see Pulp Fiction on there!

Double Indemnity is one of my all time faves. B. Stanwyck was just awesomely evil.

Re: AFI: 100 years, 100 movies - 07/02/07 06:08 PM

I don't think I've seen more than 1/2 of those movies. Oh, well! The Godfather, Deer Hunter, and The Sixth Sense would be at the top of my list out of all those mentioned.

Re: AFI: 100 years, 100 movies - 07/02/07 06:09 PM

I have a question; the same institution released the same list before, so how does Casablanca and The Godfather switch positions in the new list? Did they change something in either movie? How does the 2nd greatest movie become the 3rd greatest movie when nothing has changed!! That change alone removes any possible credibility of this list, not that this list as any credibility at all I suppose.

Re: AFI: 100 years, 100 movies - 07/02/07 06:21 PM

I have probably only seen 25 out of those 100 movies, if that!

Re: AFI: 100 years, 100 movies - 07/02/07 06:30 PM

I scanned the list for Blade Runner and even though it is no. 97, I'm still satisfied. For the most part I would say they did a good job. Most of my favorite "classics" are on there...

Re: AFI: 100 years, 100 movies - 07/02/07 06:51 PM

I've seen 40 of those. #2 and #3 would be at the top of my list, too.

Re: AFI: 100 years, 100 movies - 07/02/07 06:58 PM

well, I shouldn't be admitting this but I have seen 99 of these, and agree they should make some list, but it changes every 10 years or so.

Edit, did a recount, I think I have seen about 26 of them.....

Re: AFI: 100 years, 100 movies - 07/02/07 07:25 PM

Well, PR, that would be two of us then. When I first saw the list I was somewhat surprised and then embarrassed to say that I have seen each one of these movies. I think that should qualify us for some sort of prize, don't you?

Re: AFI: 100 years, 100 movies - 07/02/07 07:37 PM

no prize. go outside and play!

PR and MM, you both receive a lifetime supply of mocrowave popcorn! It's virtual, of course, but it's the thought that counts.

Indeed, the thought is muy importante! Which one have you not seen MM? For me it is the oldest, what was it called, Intolerance, or something like that.

Bailey, are you old enough to know from what movie your tag line is from ? And did it make the list of the top 100?

(i also must confess - it'd probably be a waste of time for me to count how many i've seen - more efficient to say most if not all - my pale skin needs some sun!)

isn't there something you want to tell me, ben?

Re: AFI: 100 years, 100 movies - 07/02/07 07:56 PM

Well, first off - PR I have seen all 100 of them (and many, many more) I also recognized Bailey's tagline and was wondering if she (or as everyone else wonders, he) knew where it was from.

And actually, Bailey, I too have pale skin (comes from the strawberry blonde hair) and unfortunately as a kid I was allergic to sunscreen so I couldn't go out. Plus playing with the five brothers was rather dangerous, I have the scars to prove it!! So movies (as well as books) and I were best friends!!

I cannot believe that Toy Story beat out Walking Tall, and Guess Who is Coming to Dinner.

Re: AFI: 100 years, 100 movies - 07/02/07 08:02 PM

I wouldn't agree with the order at all. As a matter of fact, I feel there are many that shouldn't be on here and many more that should. It's all a matter of personal taste. Personally, I don't usually see a movie based on the reviews or ratings.

PS Thank you for the virtual popcorn, BaconBoy. I'm glad someone thought we deserved a prize!!

Re: AFI: 100 years, 100 movies - 07/02/07 08:08 PM

Many excellent movies listed. But I wonder, is Fellowship of the Ring encompassing the other two LOTR movies? If not, the list is a bit bogus.

I also id not see any of the spaghetti westerns of Clint Eastwood, or would thise not qualify since they are mae in Italy?

And did I miss it, or was Rocky not in there?

And what about Star Trek 2 and 7?

Re: AFI: 100 years, 100 movies - 07/02/07 08:08 PM

ok, that's twice now... why would i post a random quote and not know what movie it came from??
Posted By: TheManofSteel

Re: AFI: 100 years, 100 movies - 07/02/07 08:11 PM

Ok my bad, I see Rocky on there.

Re: AFI: 100 years, 100 movies - 07/02/07 08:24 PM

Sorry, Bailey, I wasn't inferring anything. I just know several people who do use movie quotes and have no idea where they came from. They just thought it sounded funny or stupid so they used it. It's the same with people using words from other languages and not knowing that they are actually cursing or insulting someone in Swahili...

Re: AFI: 100 years, 100 movies - 07/02/07 08:35 PM

sorry if i sounded touchy. it just never occured to me to post something i didn't fully understand, and i figured i wasn't alone in that.

Re: AFI: 100 years, 100 movies - 07/02/07 08:48 PM

Unbelievably, no. Some people just say things they think are cool. I always try to tell my kids not to say something if they don't know what it really means or where it came from for that matter. Didn't mean to treat you like one of my kids!!

ok, see, that was a joke, buried in an apology, (evidently) wrapped in an enigma!

IT'S ALL GOOD, FOLKS!!

No, the list is correct; this was the sequel to Gulliver's Travels. It's about Gulliver's younger brother Sullivan and his wacky adventures.

I haven't seen all of the movies on the list (maybe half? but I am thrilled to see Singing in the Rain on the list. I love musicals, that is one of my all time favorites.
