Sharing Praises - 07/08/10 04:16 PM

God is good all the time....All the time God is good!

We had a major surprise and adjustment in our lives on June 21st. My husband had to undergo emergency surgery for a perforated colon. He has a very long road to travel to get back to full health, but I am writing to share the joys we have experienced so far.

I don't have the time or the space to list everything, but God was not taken by surprise and had the exact people we needed where and when we needed them. His surgeon is phenomenal and is the most caring surgeon I have ever met. The nurses (except for one or two) in the hospital were terrific. Our family and friends have lifted us up in prayer and have supported us physically as well. We have felt so close to God and we are so in awe of what He can do.

So, that's my praise to share....I'm sure there will be more!

What's yours?

I love the idea of this thread, so I'll add mine.

My little brother turned 26 this weekend. He had a brain tumor when he was younger and has had many health issues in his life, but this last year has been pretty uneventful, which is great! His birthday wish was to spend time with his family, so we went to the zoo and played putt-putt golf. It was wonderful and I am so thankful for the family time. It is a priceless gift.

I can relate, East Texas. My husband had shoulder surgery last week and he is the worst when it comes to pain and needles, not to mention he is chlostrophobic (sp?) on top of all that. He was pretty freaked out just thinking of the initial shot and the i.v. and the anxiety he would be feeling afterwards.

Thank God, his team of nurses and doctors were awesome and they handled him very well. Of course, the "happy juice" they gave him before they did anything to him at all helped too. smile They even enjoyed giving him a bit of a hard time the next day about it all. I loved that part the most.

We don't always recognize the various ways we receive our blessings. About a month ago, the engine in my car blew. Totally without warning, we had not had any problems with it, it didn't use oil and I only had about 130k miles. When the mechanic dropped the engine to replace it, he found that my axles were broken. He couldn't believe I had been able to even drive the car. He said it was a miracle that I hadn't been involved in a terrible wreck. I could have been driving down the freeway and been killed. Who would have thought of a blown engine as a blessing? You never know.

Re: Sharing Praises - 07/13/10 08:45 PM

...and while I'm thinking about it, one more...

My youngest daughter suffered recurrent bronchitis as a small child. Nothing seemed to help. She went through repeated rounds of antibiotics, but nothing seemed to help for long.

When she was 3, I noticed she seemed to be having "accidents" while were trying to potty train her. She seemed so surprised and would tell me that she didn't know she had to potty. After discussing with her pediatrician, we were sent to a pediatric urologist.

She had total reflux in both her kidneys. It was so bad that the doctor said it was a miracle she didn't have severe scarring. He said that it was so bad that he would not have been surprised if she needed a kidney transplant. You guessed it...all those antibiotics saved her kidneys.

God is good all the time.

Amen, Bones and BrendaC. God IS good...and we hear so much around us that is negative whether it is social, medical, economic, political, job-related, family problems.....we can get bogged down in the stresses and strains of life and forget the splashes of joy that are there. I would love to see this thread continue because, if we are honest, we all have a story to share of a blessing big or small, obvious or in disguise. Hearing about it is an encouragement to me and lifts me up. Thanks for sharing!

Re: Sharing Praises - 07/14/10 09:49 PM

In May, my hubby and I took our 8 year-old grandson (in a wheelchair due to Ullrich Congenital Muscular Dystrophy) to Branson for a week. We drove almost 2000 miles - there and back to his home. After getting home, I noticed a slight shimmy in the steering wheel of the car. Took it in for an alignment; only to find out the front tire had a huge bubble in it and steel wires coming out on the inside where the steel belts were separating. Praise God we didn't have an accident on that road trip!

God IS good!!!!!

Re: Sharing Praises - 07/16/10 10:04 PM

I got this in an email and thought of this thread, with everyone finding the good/God in all situations, so I figured I'd share it. Enjoy.

When I look at a patch of dandelions, I see a bunch of weeds
that are going to take over my yard. My kids see
flowers for Mom and blowing white fluff you can wish on.

When I look at an old drunk and he smiles at me, I see a
smelly, dirty person who probably wants money and I look
away. My kids see someone smiling at them and they
smile back.

When I hear music I love, I know I can't carry a tune and
don't have much rhythm so I sit self-consciously and listen.
My kids feel the beat and move to it. They sing out the
words. If they don't know them, they make up their own.

When I feel wind on my face, I brace myself against it. I
feel it messing up my hair and pulling me back when I walk.
My kids close their eyes, spread their arms and fly with
it, until they fall to the ground laughing.

When I pray, I say thee and thou and grant me this, give me
that. My kids say, "Hi God! Thanks for my toys and my
friends. Please keep the bad dreams away tonight. Sorry, I
don't want to go to Heaven yet. I would miss my Mommy and
Daddy."

When I see a mud puddle I step around it. I see muddy shoes
and dirty carpets. My kids sit in it. They see dams to
build, rivers to cross, and worms to play with.

I wonder if we are given kids to teach or to learn from? No
wonder God loves the little children! Enjoy the little
things in life, for one day you may look back and realize
they were the big things.

I wish you Big Mud Puddles and Sunny Yellow Dandelions!

Re: Sharing Praises - 10/19/10 05:54 PM

Another update: we have the second surgery behind us now and the second surgery not only repaired the colon but also removed his gall bladder...quite a stressful surgery and a very stressful hospital stay (different hospital than in June). However, the incision is healing nicely and now the goal is to gain back the nearly 50 lbs he has lost and get him back at work. God is good and always faithful!

Continue to share your stories of thanksgiving...especially at this time of year!

Re: Sharing Praises - 10/19/10 08:30 PM

My family has been truely blessed this year. Around the begining of April, we put an offer in on a new house. The house is truely amazing and the previous owners excepted our offer. Now here comes the good part. At the time when we made an offer on the house, we did not have our previous house on the market. We immediately listed our old house, and within 2 weeks, we had accepted an offer to sell our old home. It worked out that we never had two house payments during the same month! Praise God!

On top of all this, we are expecting a baby in November...if my wife goes that long. I really think she will have our baby girl by the end of the month.

This has been a great year for us and we give God all the glory!
