Girly Movies - 02/06/06 09:13 PM

Has anyone seen Must Love Dogs, the Wedding Date, or A Lot Like Love.
My friend and I are having a really cheesy girls weekend. We are going to watch girly movies, do our nails, and act like we are teenagers again! She is going through a rough time and needs a break from life. Anyway, I was trying to think of some newer movies that she would not have seen yet so I wanted to see how these movies were. Thanks.

A Sex and the City marathon is always a good way to go when you need to have a girls weekend. I havent seen any new movies lately that are too girly. I'm more of a war, guns, and planes kind of gal.

My wife rented Must Love Dogs this weekend and I watched it. It started off pretty good with some funny parts. By the end, I came away from it thinking it was a mediocre movie at best. It faded big time, and Diane Lane was not as likable as normal. It really could have been a very good movie if they had taken a different direction in some parts. I will give you a sleeper movie to watch - not necessarily a chick flick, but a great dialogue, Indie type flick that came out a few years back ... Pieces of April with the soon-to-be Mrs. Tom "I am nuts" Cruise.

How about Spanglish? I hope your friends troubles aren't man related otherwise these romantic comedies might not be a good idea.

I didn't like The Wedding Date as much as I thought I would. I thought it was really slow in parts. The movie "Just Like Heaven" comes out on video this week (I think) and I thought it was really cute. It's the one with Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo. You might like that one.

There's always the old standbys:

Anne of Green Gables trilogy
Sarah Plain and Tall trilogy
Love's Enduring Promise trilogy
Steel Magnolias
Fried Green Tomatos
Erin Brockovich
Ghost
what is that silly movie where she went to Harvard Law school to get her boyfriend back? Aren't there 2 of those?

How about the "American Pie" movies, or "White Chicks".
"Valley Girl" or "Fast Times at Ridgemont High"

Try Something to Talk About with Julia Roberts and Kyra Sedgewick as sisters. It's loaded with a bunch of other great actors too. If any of your friend's troubles are male, this one will make her laugh! I don't buy many movies but I own this one and it's well-played.

"Legally Blonde" is the name! Thanks - it was escaping me. It is lighthearted and funny - a no-brainer if that's what you're in the mood for.

There's "Pay it Forward" if you want to sob buckets of tears.

I really like the Notebook, but if the reason for a girls night is because of boy troubles, then I wouldn't reccomend it.

How about 50 First Dates or The Wedding Singer? Ya gotta love Adam Sandler.

You have to watch "The Duplex" with Drew Barrymore and Ben Stiller. It's hilarious.

Has anyone seen "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants"? I've heard it's pretty good.

I liked Sisterhood of the traveling pants.
I also recently saw a walk in the park (I think that was the name).

Thanks for your responses. I have a good start. PS My friend is not having man troubles, so most of those movies sound like they will work. I have not seen Duplex. I actually wanted to see that a while back and I must have forgotten about it.

Girls watch movies, and have pillow fights in their lingerie, which usually leads to making out.
