I am getting married in Sept. and tring to find a place to go for my honeymoon. The problem is that my wife to be will not fly. So I am looking for ideas with in about 6 hours from Lexington, KY. Does anyone have any ideas? Looking for someplace that has a night life and romantic. Thanks for any help.

Have you approaced her with possibly taking a valium or something like that before she boards, they may would calm her down enough to make the flight. Look for some secluded restort that maybe panders to newlyweds, that's in the mountains by a stream, with a fireplace and a jaccuzi. Surely you can start looking on the internet and find something. And bye the way congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

I would recommend a cabin in the Smokeys, although there is no night life.

Check out the cruise webpages and see where the nearest cruise departs from. That is what I did on my honeymoon. Seven day cruise. It was the best!!

Great idea and I believe there are cruises out of Charleston, SC, which is do-able.

How far is Niagra Falls? It is really beautiful and if you go in the opposite direction after you cross into Canada (left to falls, go right) there is a little town in the wine country called Niagra on the Lakes (I think). It is so quaint. There are a number of Bed and Breakfasts that are just great!

Nashville has night life and lots of charm. Many bed and breakfasts and fine hotels from which to choose. Chicago is about that distance and has great night life, hotels and food. I think Charleston is a lovely romantic place but I can't testify about the night life.
Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

rent a really hot car/convertible for about a week and do a tour of nice bed and breakfast places? map it out so the drive to each place is scenic

Oh, I have to vote with those who suggested a cruise! Cruises have it all - night life, exotic ports, great food, sun, pool, jacuzzi, drinks with umbrellas, dancing under the stars, etc.

paddle-wheeler down the Mississippi might be fun - scenery, possible gambling, unique experience?

Have you ever been to the New River Gorge bridge area in Lansing WV? It is about four hours from you. It is one of the most beautiful places in the US. I dont' know about the night life but there are a number places to stay near there and like I said, it is beautiful.

Look at this.

My brother won't fly so for their 40th anniverary their daughter sent them on an Alaskan Cruise. They took the train from Detroit to Vancouver then cruised up to Alaska, took an inland tour for about a week then a cruise down back to Vancouver and the train back to Michigan. Of course they are retired so they had a ton of time not to mention money, but they are now train converts. They went back to some National Parks this past year. Now they are thinking of taking the train to LA and cruising to Hawaii. In other words, think of a train vacation!

um, if you're getting married, you should be the nightlife for each other...

sorry about the no flying, that sure limits your options. Nashville would be okay, but after 2 days you've pretty much done everything their touristy that there is to do. What about a couple of days in nashville, a couple in knoxville, maybe a couple in gatlinburg?

Another thought if you decide to go toward the Smokies...Asheville is a very nice stop. My husband and I love strolling about the Biltmore Estate and I have heard that the new Biltmore Inn is just fabulous.

I live in Washington, but on our honeymoon, we spent a week just exploring our own state. We figured that we coudl go somewhere nice and expensive and far away, or we could see what kind of "treasures" we had in our own backyard. We went to AAA and got a Washington State book, and didn't make any definate plans, we just got on the road, and started looking for fun places to go. It was nice because the whole week was just the 2 of us. We go to do a lot of talking about the future and our life together while alone in the car, and we could just stop anywhere for a nice picnic under the stars. It was the best vacation I've ever had.

Downtown Charleston had a pretty decent night life. Excellent resturants and clubs. Also, at both James Island and Isle of Palms, there used to be some really good clubs right on the beach.

Congrats! I'm getting married in September as well...we're doing a Disney Cruise for our honeymoon--driving down and staying overnight in Cocoa Beach before the Cruise begins. That's another thought for you.
