Substitute check vs. copy of SC - 10/21/04 12:45 PM

How can we tell a substitute check from a copy of a substitute check? If a customer sends a copy of a SC to a company to prove payment and somehow that copy gets back in the collection system how can we recognize that it is a copy and not the real thing?

Two things jump to mind for me. An actual substitute check must be printed on a specified type of paper (i.e. check stock) and it also must be encoded with magnetic ink.
