On the Credit Report Everything else does...
We are a small town community bank and had this happen. How do we go about helping the customer fix this. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks

Have your customer contact your nearest social security administration office.

My initial take was also to say contact SSA; I think they need to obtain proof of their SSN from SSA and then go to the credit reporting agency to straighten out their record.

Unless of course it turns out they are using a false SSN; you would not be the first small town bank to have that occur. But advising them to get proof of SSN from SSA will help uncover that if it is the case.

Have the customer bring a copy of their social security card and cross check it with the credit report. Maybe the person pulling the report could not read the customer's writing, or it was somekind of typographical error, or the customer just doesn't know their own SS#.

As Kaybee said above, contact the credit bureau.
