I ask this with tongue in cheek, but did the outside auditor happen to mention what certification or school might be appropriate?

I don't "recommend" any as I don't have audit certification experience, but the two I have seen the most are the CCBIA from the ICBA and the CIA from the Institute of Internal Auditors. Both have different requirements and fit slightly different purposes.

I'd be suggesting they pay for it if they're pushing it. smile

The CIA is a good starting point for any auditor. It also is something perspective employers like to see on a resume, so I say if your management is supportive, go for it!

When you say outside auditors are you saying they perform internal audit work or your financial statement audit?
