Forged Indorsement - Timing - 02/13/06 11:12 PM

I'm confused about the timelines for return of a check for "improper indorsement" or "forged indorsement" How much time is allowed for the bank of first deposit to credit the paying bank for checks returned for this reason? Here's the scenario: The Payee on an Official Check has signed an affidavit of forgery. It is obvious that the check was not indorsed by the Payee, but by someone else and deposited into their account. The check was issued 1/30/06. We are being told it will be 90 days before we will be credited. It's not really a forgery, but an improper indorsement. I've read through the UCC and could not find the answer. Thanks for your help!

You did not find the answer because it isn't there. It only says that the endorsers gave warranties, but the UCC doesn't say how long they have to "make good" once you've demanded payment.
