Reg H - Risk-based Capital

Reg H - Risk-based Capital - 01/14/11 02:21 PM

I have been preparing the Reg H report for the last few quarters and each month I call our accounting dept to obtain the "Total Risk-based Capital" figure. Each time I called, I was promptly given a number and all was good.

This time when I called, she asked me whether I wanted "Total Capital" or "Total Risk-based capital" (which included loan loss) and whether I wanted "Tier 1 Capital" or "Tier 2 Capital"?

Now I am totally confused?

Can someone clarify what figure is required?

Schedule R of the Call Report will help.

The appendices to Reg H also provide a great deal of detail on capital.

We don't have our call report ready yet, so I do not have that to refer to.

However, I have found a "Total Capital" figure on our Dec EOM balance sheet. I think it includes Tier 1 and Tier 2. I am wondering if that's what I should use.

I found this in the appendix A to 12 CFR Part 208:

"Qualifying total capital is calculated by adding Tier 1 capital and Tier 2 capital (limited to 100 percent of Tier 1 capital) and then deducting from this sum certain investments in banking or finance subsidiaries that are not consolidated for accounting or supervisory purposes, reciprocal holdings of banking organization capital securities, or other items at the direction of the Federal Reserve."
