Applicants on maternity leave

Question:
May a lender delay the processing of a home loan application because an applicant is on maternity/paternity leave?
Answer:

No, if the applicant otherwise qualifies for the loan, an application can’t be delayed due to maternity or paternity leave. If the loan is delayed or denied due to the leave period only, the applicant has been discriminated against based on familial status, a violation of the Fair Housing Act.
