Authorized Signer Avoiding a Levy or Garnishment

Answered by:

Question:
I know that an authorized signer can't be levied or garnished, but can an authorized signer have their funds deposited (especially a government direct deposit) into an account that they are not a co-owner of attempting to avoid a levy?
Answer:

That is one of the best arguments for preventing an authorized signer from commingling his/her personal funds with those of the account owner. Surely, your depositor would not be pleased if the IRS issued a subpoena for account records if it discovered that the delinquent taxpayer was squirreling funds away in someone else's account.
