BSA/CTR Filings Section B-Deposit or Shipment

Answered by:

Question:
BSA/CTR Filings Section B (item B mail deposit or shipment). We cannot find an description of what that would include (shipment). Can you please help us?
Answer:

I believe this is one of those things that if it was relevant to your bank, you would be able to identify the context. It is not a defined term, but just as banks might theoretically receive cash through the mail, they might theoretically have cash shipped to them by a bonded carrier. (The fact that the option is listed on the form does not suggest it is a routine practice.)

The connection between "mailed" and "shipped" currency is the fact that the person who walked in the door with it probably had no idea what was in the package and there is no point in getting his or her ID.
