Compiling HMDA Data

Answered by:

Question:
In compiling HMDA data, when can we use "information not supplied by applicant" and when are we required to "enter race or national origin and sex on the basis of visual observation or surname"?
Answer:

If you see the applicants at application, you must have the GMI collected either by the applicants completing it or, if they refuse, the loan officer filling it out. If the application is not in person, you should not have this data completed, but rather use the "information not provided" codes.
