Copying Driver's Licenses

Answered by:

Question:
You mention in a Q&A that we should not retain DL copies because of possible Reg B/ECOA violations. How do you explain the several large banks (I am most familiar with those in the Dallas-Fort Worth area) that image the DLs for identification purposes for better customer service and more so, to cut down on fraud?
Answer:

This is one of those issues that will have to eventually be worked out between the examiners and the state laws. There are some states that specifically state that you can or cannot make a copy of a driver's license in any form. However, the examiners are taking a dim view of maintaining an image of the customer on file where it could influence a loan decision.
