CTR on a Night Deposit

Answered by:

Question:
Assume a business comes to drop off a night deposit bag in our depository but we don't process the bag until the customer comes into the bank to open it. The deposit is $10,000+ in cash and we must file a CTR. Do we file it as a night deposit transaction or do we file the information of the person from the business who is in the bank opening the bag?
Answer:

File it showing the person who came to the bank to open the bag as the party conducting the transaction. The "night deposit" check box on the CTR is for the purpose of explaining why you do not have identification on the person conducting the transaction. You do have it.
