Currency Amount for CTR-Immediate Cash/Deposit

Answered by:

Question:
If a customer comes to the teller window to cash a $12,000 withdrawal, the teller physically hands the customer the $12,000, and the customer then gives back $1,000 to deposit to another account to obtain immediate credit, how much currency is the CTR processed for, $12,000 or $11,000?
Answer:

Because the currency left the control of the teller/bank and came under the control of the customer, I believe that you report the $12,000 figure. This also avoids any argument about whether or not the customer could have switched funds, etc. And of course you don't report in any way the $1,000 given back for the deposit to the other account.
