Deceased account owner and abandoned property

Answered by:

Are there different rules around the escheatment timeframes for a deceased account?

You know that the laws differ from state to state. With respect to any differences between routine processing of abandoned property and the processing of accounts or safe deposit box contents of a decedent’s estate, there may be provisions in your state that allow for an earlier transfer of estate accounts or property to the state. This is a question you should pose to the agency in your state that handles abandoned property, your state bankers association, or bank counsel.
