Did you question the internal fraudster properly?

Answered by:

Question:
We had an internal embezzler who robbed us many times before we caught him. We questioned him after every incident, and he never confessed to anything? What were we doing wrong?
Answer:

People who are not trained on how to conduct an internal fraud investigation don’t know the proper questions to ask! An untrained person will ask about the actual fraud or how procedures operate in the area never really asking the important questions. The first question you should always ask a suspect, “Did you take the money?” The next questions are a series of psychological questions to trip up the embezzler or prove the innocence of an honest person.
