FDIC Logo on Security Envelopes & Promo Items

Answered by:

Question:
What are the rules for security envelopes when mailing items from the bank? Can they just be security envelopes or do they need the FDIC logo as part of the security print? Do we need to print "member FDIC" on promotional items such as pens, pizza cutters and magnets?
Answer:

You should definitely familiarize yourself with FDIC regulations part 328, especially Section 328.3. This section covers requirements and exemptions from inclusion of the official advertising statement "Member FDIC". As to your questions about the security envelopes, I'm not aware of anything from a federal regulatory standpoint that would stipulate when you must use them. I think that needs to be part of your consumer privacy and information security risk assessment process and used accordingly.
