Geo-coding- Use Collateral or Customer Address?

Answered by:

Geo-coding on loans, do you use the collateral address or customer address?

It depends on what the purpose of the loan is and on why you are geocoding. HMDA and CRA potentially require geocoding depending on loan purpose and on size/location of the financial institution. If you are geocoding under one or both of those regulatory requirements, look to what those regulations say about which address you would use (both of those regulations provide guidance on this question). If you are geocoding for some other purpose (internal analysis, etc.), it's up to you to determine which address you feel is most appropriate for geocoding.
