Guidelines and Checklists for Bank Web Sites

Answered by:

Question:
We are considering the creation of a Web page and the offering of electronic banking services to our customers. Do you have any guidelines or a checklist of the items we should be taking into consideration? I am concerned that we are overlooking some basic items as we move into this new type of products.
Answer:

Many studies are available on what customers do with Internet banking. If this meets your customers needs, it may be to your benefit. http://www.occ.treas.gov/netbank/netbank.htm is the OCC's center for Internet banking information. Look to this and other regulator checklists and exam procedures. The Internet banking vendor you choose should also be able to help on what has to be done.Internet banking is generally viewed as a loss leader. That is, many banks have it because their competitors do and customers may move their accounts to take advantage of the product elsewhere. It does not tend to generate income, but does aide in customer retention and it can reduce your costs of taking care of customers.
