Helping customers avoid or deal with ID theft

What can we use to try to help educate customers about warning signs of identity theft?

On the Federal Trade Commission’s website at, the agency provides a list of warning signs for consumers – “Clues that someone has stolen your information.” In addition, you can print out (or order) copies of a 40-page “Recovery Plan” for customers who have actually become victims. It leads them, step by step, through the process of recovery, with sample letters, memo, credit report request form and more.
